This poor little Powershot A20 was dropped by me on its lens in 2001. It seriously broke the lens barrel... making for a very dead camera.

Lately I was thinking about a remote shutter cable, and then I saw this broken A20 in some drawer... and noticed the shutter button.
At first I wondered if I could use that dual action button in a small home made contraption... till I realized it would be a lot more handy to just let the switch stay inside the A20, and solder some leads from the switch to the cable.

And so, here it is... an A20 in its 2nd life as remote shutter cable release for a Canon EOS 350D.

I am sure it will make people wonder...

Do you look through the viewfinder of the A20 when you snap a pic? :D:D

Now you've got as many megapixels as those D200s and MIIIs :D

I was hoping this was a post about the video game Second Life (of which I am a resident). But that's still really neat. I save all my old electronic and PC parts for reasons just like this. You never know when you'll be able to turn 10 broken items into 1 working item.
