WoW

This was my first attempt at this. I hand-held all my shot using the deck rail to keep it steady. you can tell in some of the pics... and you can even see some rain drops on the glass.. but all in all I tihnk I like the shots that I got.

C&C welcome as always.

Very nice indeed. I love lightning shots. If anything it looks like your sensor might need a bit of a cleaning. I can see several spots that look like particles stuck on the sensor.

Nice work man! Something I've been thinking about trying lately.

What was your ratio of keepers to 'not keepers' :) ?

Great shots! Any tips for the rest of us? My only suggestion would be to place the horizon further up in the frame, approaching 1/3.

I do need to clean my camera fro sure :)

the keeper rate... I took about 27 pics and these are the best 4. I might have one more but thats about it.

next time I will be grabbing my tri pod on the way out the door, its to hard to hand hold. even if you have something to set the camera on, I still had to point it towards the sky. All shots were taken with 10-22.

the reason I cropped out the horizon was because they were a bit OOF from and shake.

thanks guys

Tim, some great shots there. One of these days I've really got to try to capture lightening.

The first two are my favorite, the color of the sky is cool in the first one and the second one you really get the sense that the lightning it striking upward (and it really is!!!!) from the ground to the cloud. Great pictures. What was your setup, how about some exif data. Cool.

Pics still have exif data attached. here you go anyway

1.) ISO100-10mm-f/13-6.0SS
2.) ISO100-10mm-f/16-8.0SS
3.) ISO100-10mm-f/20-4.0SS
4.) ISO400-20mm-f/8-13.0SS

I really just wanted to take a few snaps of the storm rolling in.. the clouds looked cool. didnt think about lightening at all.

Was there any thunder or just lightening alone?

They look really nice and that is something you don't see at San Diego.

Lightning without thunder does not exist :p, it is the lightning's sound.
Thunder just does not really show up on photos :D
