Pretty sweet. The first 2 rock socks.. Not a fan of the last one though because the color of the reflection kills the b&w background.

Hey Guys and Girls!

These are some I took using my new Fujifilm S700 that I've had perhaps three weeks now? I love this camera as it it's a great step up from a simple point and shoot but it doesn't overwhelm in features that I can't spell let alone use!LOL

Well, I would really appreciate some input from you folks as this is really the first time I actually took pictures to be displayed instead of just used as evidence. Let me know where I'm going wrong but please also let me know where I'm going right!

I know that one of the shots of the black car is HORRIBLY out of focus....

Out of the 1000 or so SEMA photos, those are about the only ones I've gone through so far--well, I did go through a few model shots as well. ;) Actually, I've been so busy taking photos, I haven't had a chance to go through those photos--After SEMA, it was hockey and R/C jets. This weekend, probably full-size jets and soccer.

More importantly, did you get a free tattoo and free set of tires at the Dunlop booth? ;)

Nice! I only got in about 300 photos, but I was usually walking with a groupe of 3-4 people so it was kind of hard to stay together and get a bunch of shots. But yes, I certainly went through some of my model shots! :)

I watched them do that to a guy for a few minutes, they would have to give me free tires for life for me to do that. LOL I did get a couple shots of Kat Von D when she was at the same booth though.

Maybe that guy was me. LOL. I took numerous photos while they were giving me a tattoo. The flash must of attracted a lot of others as well since the television crews showed up along with numerous other people who kept taking photos. And I still have yet to go through the SEMA "car" photos--yesterday was Aviation Nation and today was college soccer.

Ha! Cool deal! Did Kat von D happen to make her appearance right after you got your tattoo? If so, I saw you getting it done. Curious, did they give you whatever size tire you wanted? I run 215/35/18s on my daily and show truck, those tires arent exspensive enough to warrant me getting a tattoo for em. :D Though if I was running 26s or something, I would think twice about it.

I was told whatever tire they had in the catalogs at the show and/or online as long as they weren't special order tires. I should be starting the SEMA photos soon. Meanwhile, here is a photo of one of the cars that showed up at a local R/C jet fly-in that I attended just after SEMA. I sort of got a kick out of it because of where it was parked--check out the tires in front of it. I'm also assuming that if Dunlop made that large of a tire, they would be special order.

Here are the results from my first attempt at panning. I just decided to shoot whatever went by to get some practice because my success rate wasn't very high. Of course I choked when the cool cars passed by. :( I shot with IS off at ~45mm with a shutter speed of ~1/60 sec, handheld. I also used MF because my camera doesn't do too well with AF and a moving target. The cars were moving at 35-40 mph. If anyone with more experience has some suggestions, it would be appreciated.

Nice, nice! I love the older style Bentleys. R/C jets huh? I have a friend whos main job is traveling around and flying those things for the owners of the jets. His name is Dave Shulman. He probably would have been out there flying if it wife wasnt busy having a baby at the time. lol Ha, yeah, I dont see Dunlop carrying those. They look to be 53" Michelins or something of that sort.

I guess this could loosely be called a car...
31142

An old Chevy.
31143

A Ford Super Deluxe V-8, a 1925 Rickenbacker Super Sport, and a Rolls-Royce in front of a B-17 Flying Fortress.
31144

I wonder if Ford made a "Standard Deluxe", or a "Super Regular"?
31145

The Rolls-Royce.
31146

The Rickenbacker (made by the WWI pilot) made 109 hp at 3000 rpm from its inline 8 cylinder engine. The "L" head engine had the valves in the block. Twin ignition and carbs, and 4-wheel drum brakes.
31147

If you are asking me, about the Rickenbacker, I don't know the current value. It originally sold for about $5,000 and only about 20 were produced. Not only was the car top-of-the-line, Eddie Rickenbacker was a world-famous race car driver (including Indy) before and after WWI, and he was the top US ace from WWI. So, his name on a car was worth a lot as well.

Here's a nice summary of Rickenbacker the man, and the Rickenbacker cars.

If you are asking TNB about the off-roader, you'll have to ask again :-)

Nothing technically great about this picture, but I like the way it turned out. Its my buddies turboed v8 rx7. We were leaving a local car show and he went out a different entrance than I did, so I just reached over and grabbed my camera off the seat to see if I could catch the car real quick. The shot ended up being pretty dark and I couldnt get it to come out like I wanted...so it went black and white..and I darkened it up a bit more.

Sorry the picture is a bit wide...

Hey All,
I have a passion for cars made in the 1950s and early 60s and when I was visiting my sister in Miami Florida for Christmas, I came across many like this 1955 Buick in perfect shape, I would worry about the salt water making it all rusty.

This weekend it wasn't NASCAR or SEMA, but sanctioned 1/8th scale remote control car racing. For the uninformed, these R/Cs can easily cost over $1,000.00 and run in excess of 80mph. Good panning is a must when still allowing for some tire motion.

Nice capture. I used to race these and the larger 1/5th scales so know how difficult it is to stop one in its tracks with a camera.:)

Nice capture. I used to race these and the larger 1/5th scales so know how difficult it is to stop one in its tracks with a camera.:)
Thanks. The most difficult types of R/Cs I've captured in motion are probably modified Kyosho Mini-Zs indoors (RCX). Next up would be 1/12th scale indoors (IIC). Very small targets running indoors at 40mph on the straights.

I also used to race R/Cs and still own around 70 R/Cs (gas, nitro, electric (brushed and brushless) ranging from the very small to quarter scale onroad; however, my 1/8th scale boat is larger than my 1/4 scale onroad car. I also own two 1/5th scales (one FG onroad and one HPI Baja5B offroad), but never got into racing them here since the nearest 1/5th scale track would be in California though an HPI Baja5B demo-type race is planned for 2008 Silver State. Of course, most all my R/Cs sit on the racks since the camera gets used the most. ;)

Here's another example...

Love those cars, especially 'Christine" aka the Plymouth Belvedere and the Corvette Nomad. The 59 Impala is nice but the exotic fender skirts are a bit much for my taste. :( Your great camera eye for classic cars are a feeding my
fetish for them even more. I've always wanted a 1958 Edsel Convertible. Can't wait for the Dallas Auto Show next month, I hope they have some classics too. Yes, my camera will be there but deciding which one to use is my problem

Ok, maybe not. The owner had a previous experience with a gas leak on his previous GT. So he installed a halon gas fire supression system.

Josef great shot. I have always liked cars against a B&W background. I do wish that the white house was not so bright behind the rear combined with the car's striping it pulls the eye too much away from the car. Not sure what can be done about it in post processing. Perhaps a water color or Gaussian blur on the background?

I sort of got a kick out of that when I took the photo. I even thought about "touching" up the paint job on the Yugo, but then I thought it may just make the Lamborghini look even better if I left the Yugo alone.

This was taken with a CPL. I adjusted it until I got the least amount of glare and reflection. The sun was to my right slightly to the rear.

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h2/UltraCarry45/Cars/DSC_2910.jpg
This one the sun was to my left but behind a cloud. I had the CPL adjusted to maximize the reflection in the paint. There is almost no glare on the rear glass, just on the very left edge. This car had a very fine paint job.

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h2/UltraCarry45/Cars/DSC_2913.jpg
This was taken with a CPL adjusted to remove the glare. You should see what was under the hood.

From my shadow you see where the sun was. The CPL was adjusted to show the reflection in the paint. There is a slight glare on the windshield.

50298

The 1974 Fascination was based on a previously-failed design which intended to use a propeller up front. This is the second of three built.

The Liberty Mutual-Cornell Survival car incorporated some features the insurance company (Liberty Mutual) thought would increase safety, such as 4 windshield wipers, and accordion doors. The car never caught on with the public.

I'm glad you liked them. I have a few more odds and ends...

A mock-up of a 1957 Studebaker-Packard Astral nuclear-powered concept car. It was supposed to have a "protective curtain of energy" and a gyro to balance on one wheel, when not hovering or moving forward.
50353

50355

1978 Hybricon Centaur II was a modified Honda 600 with 2 small electric motors added to the stock 2-cylinder air-cooled engine. The body was modified by George Barris to accomodate the engines and batteries. It never entered production.

The General Motors EV1 from 1996. These were only leased, not sold, and infamously reposessed and crushed by GM. The documentary Who Killed the Electric Car? is about this car.
50358

Here are a few shots for anyone who likes racing cars from a visit yesterday to the Donnington Park Racing museum.
First up is an old Maclaren that was driven by James Hunt next to the JPS Lotus of Nigel Mansell.
55920
This is the 1961 Lotus of Stirling Moss
55921
Here's a shot of the Maclaren hall
55922
And finally a close up of a modern steering wheel. Quite a contrast to that of Stirling Moss in 1961
55923
There are a few more in the Olympus photo thread for racing fans.

1913 Mercer Type 35-J Raceabout cost $2,500 when new, and could go 100 MPH with proper tuning. This is believed to be the most original specimen in existence.
55954

1923 American Mercedes Company 28/95 Targa Florio was powered by a 7.2-liter SOC aircraft engine modified for road use. This one was owned 1985-2001 by NBC Radio orchestra leader Don Ricardo.
55955

1926 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost Salamanca Town Cabriolet has a mix of formal body styles - the open chauffeur compartment, and convertible rear section with a permanent roof in the middle - a hold-over from the horse-and-carriage era.
55956

1937 Swallow-Standard SS-100 Jaguar could go 100 MPH. This one was owned by singer Mel Torme.
55961

1937 Cord 812 Convertible Coupe came in several versions, but only the 195-HP supercharged version had exterior exhaust pipes. 55957

1934 La Salle Series 350 Convertible Coupe used a straight-eight design while Cadillac had popularized the V-8. This specimen was sold new in Argentina, and has right-hand drive.
55958

1937 Delage D-8 Coupe Aerosport has a long chassis which gave designers the opportunity for a streamlined body with a long hood. This one was discovered in a French barn in the early '90s and has been restored with original colors.
55959

1938 Delahaye Type 135M Roadster features enclosed wheels, headlights integrated into the fenders, and a split folding windshield. Only three survive out of the original 10 built. This one was found under an olive tree in Algeria.

Spent the day at Road Atlanta recently for the 2011 Petit LeMans. Still sorting through the images, but CWPhoto's recent V8 Supercars pans sent me looking through the night/evening panning I took. I managed to keep the Ford GT recognizable in this one.
