Hi, brand new here, and just got the Canon S3, and with quite a few different SD cards, not sure what is best. There is Sandisk Ultra II and Ultra III, transcend High Speed, etc. I've heard it's better to have 2 512 mb cards instead of a 1G???? Anyhow, what is the difference between some of these, and what is best for just general picture taking? Any and all advice greatly appreciated.

The ultra 2 and slower would be fine for most anything, but I believe you will need ultra 3 if you plan to use the full resolution continuous picture taking mode. Movies at high resolution "might" not work on standard speed sd cards, not sure. I baught a 2 gig ultra 2 and a 1 gig ultra 3 for my S3.

1 and 2 gig cards are fine, you can also go with the 4 gig cards, but there may be some issues down the road later that crop up, and problems reading it in any readers not designed for high density SD cards.

I have SanDisk Ultra III 1GB. I bought it in April '06 and had no problems with it, it is fantastic. Now they sell 2GB which is even better if you can afford it and if you need it. Most people who use their cameras casually don't.

Anyway before that I bought Kingston (in January '06) and it stopped working in February. I spent March talking to their people who told me I would have to pay to ship them the faulty card and then they would send me a new one, for which I probably have to pay shipping for aswell. So I just went and bought a new one, this time doing a bit more research, which I forgot to do the first time because I was more concerned about which camera I would buy.

Also I remember looking at some ads at the beginning of last year ('06) and Kingston had this obsessive real guy who was a photographer and who mainly talked in the interview about how he formats his cards every morning before going to photoshoots and blah, blah, blah....
While SanDisk also had a real guy who was a world known photographer shooting often in Africa who put his cards to a true test everyday as I like to say.
I don't know if anyone else here remember those ads, or has even seen them?

Anyway here is the link to the one I have (1GB), except this one is 2GB! Better Y.A.Y ! ;)
