alright these are about a month old, but they've been stuck on my laptop and i completely forgot about them. these are edited from my color calibrated...but not brightness calibrated laptop. so they will probably be very dark on your screen...even though they look great on mine!
this is a band called chidied(she died).
the lighting was terrible, i could barely squeeze 1/30s out of f/2.8 and ISO 3200. i used fill flash w/ the 580ex and lightsphere. most of these are shot with the 24-70mm but some are shot with my 50mm. and the 30d of course.

25mm ISO3200 f/2.8 1/30s i really hated that i cut the guitar off on this one. they move around so much that i never got another chance to reshoot it.

Sweet!
#1 is great, good work with the flash. I love the angle and you did a good job editing it.
#2 wow that is crap lighting! not much to work with especially when you have an energetic band but I like the gritty capture.
#3 I think this one would have worked better at 50mm in portrait, with just the guitar player on the left and singer.
#4 Good timing with the singer but I'm not a big fan of all the heads in the way. Not much of a choice though, I know.
#5 My favorite of the bunch.
#6 Not a big fan of the crop on this one...
#7 Ya, I agree the head would have made the shot, but I still like it.
#8 My second favorite, although the guitar sticking out of his hip is distracting... but if it was mine I wouldn't touch it... I'm too lazy.
#9 I really like the singer in this one, I would have liked to see this one in portrait mode.
#10 .... more cleavage would have been better.... :D
I think a 30mm 1.4, 50mm 1.4 and a 85mm 1.8 would be perfect for that venue. That is some seriously tough lighting to work with! You must have had a tough time with focus too eh? My XT is garbage in that kind of light. I have to use one shot focus on the brightest part of the face and then recompose for every shot.
Were you on one shot focus or servo? and also did you shoot in manual mode?
Did you try a custom WB or just fix it all up in PP? I can just imagine all the red lights in that venue! yuck!
I like your saturation and contrast levels too. They look bang on.
Are these guys friends? Do you have a myspace link for them?

Great pictures! Man, that lighting and WB was killer but you still nailed 'em as good as could be done I think. My favorites are #7 & #8 with the lights above their heads, but I also like the effect on the girls' faces. I agree with Nick assessment about their lack of cleavage though :D

Nice job with these. I'm glad between you and Nick that we've got bands covered well- I certainly would never want to have to subject myself again to those loud volumes to get the shots. It feels like I've gone from uba-cool to old-dude overnight.;)

Adam - looks like you had a tough venue to shoot at - All things considered I think you did very well - I love the feel of these photos - which means the high ISO works great and excellent timing.

Wait a minute. . . You were uba-cool? :D

i did one shot focus...but the 24-70 focused like a champ. sometimes equipment does make you look better than you are.
no, i never even messed with white balance. barely some during my raw processing, but with most of the saturation taken out, then extra red taken out, it wasn't too big of a deal anyway. and yes, red lights everywhere.
i'm friends with the guitarist on the far left..his shirt says aaa. matter of fact if you go to their myspace there's a picture of me in their pics section wearing a chidied shirt. i don't like their music, but they're cool guys and fun to shoot. it's death metal.
