Awesome. Does this happen often? In my neck of the woods (Oregon US), we've got similar flooding for a good part of the winter months. "Winter Lake" is pretty much the whole valley and pasture-lands under water.

Wow!! That's some rain!! And you got some nice arty shots too:)....I love the ones that capture that just-after-rain glint. what's the extent of damage after such downpour? Were you pre-warned?

.... yeah, they said a storm was coming. It's not hard to pick Bella, this place is so big there's always somewhere to run, unless it's the mother of all cyclones, we don't get them down here but the northern half of Oz  This one wasn't too bad as they've had experience over the years, they're getting pretty good at it now as in stop banks on the rivers etc. But not to detract from the people less lucky who lost their lives in the flood, most were from flash flooding, for those that have never witnessed flash flooding think of it like when you get hit in the head unexpectedly & it makes your head ring, that's pretty similar.

i heard today that insurance companies are ducking and weaving and aren;t going to pay for all the damage cos the damage is caused by flash flood not the rain itself. bloody scumbags.

... this is pretty common shit nowadays. it's all in the fine print. lot of the time if you buy in a zone that has been flooded within the last 100 years your insurance won't cover if you get flooded. Where we are the people of Singleton & Maitland not to forget Greta, Branxton, Lochinvar etc. haven't got jackshit of a hope of getting insurance if they are zoned in the flood zone. It's bullshit but oh too true.

Q. Did you photoshop out all the minorities sitting on their rooftops waiting for days to be rescued? ;)

T06,
Great shots. The angles of some shots suggest you were in the helicopter or were you on top of a tree? If the latter, please share the secret of keeping the camera dry?

----Does this happen often? ---
This happened on the Northern part of New South Wales (Sydney). The annoying part is that the damage costs hundreds of millions while the main dam in Sydney hardly caught a drop with water level at about 36%. It never rains on the dam catchment area.
More than 80% of the state is drought declared.
