View Full Version : Which tripod?????
I already have a 36" tripod which worked perfectly with my Panasonic FZ5, but its totally useless with my 400D + 70-300 IS. With the weight of this setup it shakes and vibrates like a tuning fork:eek:
This brings me to the market looking for a "decent" but "cheap" tripod for around US$ 50. Don't want anything fancy... just need for night shots, self portraits & panoramas... hence the lowly budget. I'm basically looking for something that could hold around 3kg load.
So, please give your recomendations...
Also, pls disclose which tripod do you use? purchase price and how good do you find it.
Thanks in advance:)
P.S: Came across this Vivitar VPT 3600 (http://www.jjmehta.com/products/vivitar_tripod.html) @ USD 50. Any opinions on this one?

I think you might have a hard time finding something decent for $50. Unless you find a good deal on a used one at KEH, Adorama, or B&H, you'll need to spend $100 to hold 3kg steady, especially if conditions are windy. At least that was what I found when researching this. I hope for your wallet's sake someone can show that I'm wrong!

I don't agree. Here is the tripod I use:

Was a Christmas present from my girlfriend, and a very good one. Check out the user reviews (48) for more info.

If that tripod works for you, then great. But I don't think it will work that well with a XTi/400D and the 70-300 MM IS. I suggest the OP go to a camera store and try out a range of tripods to get an idea of what will work for him.

I checked out the reviews and it sounds good. One of the reviewers uses it with a 20D + 70-200 f2.8 and is pretty satisfied... so i guess it should do well with my 400D + 70-300:rolleyes:
By the way, what do u think about this Vivitar... http://www.jjmehta.com/products/vivitar_tripod.html#VPT_3600

Yes, practically that's the best thing to do, but here in this part of India, we don't have many camera stores stocking higr end camera stuff... and hence the problem:(
I would either have to buy online or during a trip to the bigger cities.

I see the problem. Well, good luck, and let us know how it works out.
