This will be my first digital camera - i quess i'm looking for quality picures with easy functions. I'm looking to spend around $300, I've been looking at the Canon A75 or Sony DSC p73. Could I please have your opinion on these or other camera's. Thanks in advance

Both choices are good choices in the sub $300 catagory, but I have to give the nod to the A75. More for the use of non-proprietary (and lower cost) Compact Flash memory, and ease of handling. I have not used the DSC-P73 but I have used this case style (P71) and find it hard to hold.

In Sony's defense they offer slightly more resolution. But the differences are only critical if you plan to print a lot of 13 x 17 inch photos, or crop more than 25%. For 4x6, 5x7, and 8x10 it's a draw.

As always try these camera's and then decide based on your comfort level. Either will serve you well for the forseeable future.
