It's good to be back here! I need your prayers to get back on my feet. I've been struggling against the tide......

I just said a little prayer for you. Hope it helps. :)

Wesan, you are a darling!! Thank you so much for your prayer. And I agree with you.....let life do what it does and wait till it's done....then it's time to rebuild.
Adam, Doc is absolutely right and I am going to take his advice very seriously. :)
Tori, yeah she is growing up fast, sometimes I stop and look at her in amazement, when she tells me something and finishes off saying, "there you go"....which she picked up watching the gorgeous James Martin cooking on BBC Food:).
Zmikers, she does. Thanks and it's good to be back home.:)
Grampa..........missed you.
Here are a few more.....

Very nice pictures in the last set, 2PDG. I think I like the first one best, with the yellow building against the blue sky. Maybe because it's the colours of the Swedish flag... ;)

Lil', these are great. My favorites are #1 like Wesan, and also "Light and Colors," the one with the painted box, and "The Road." I think "Light and Colors" is very representative of your specific talent. You see the patterns and beauty in the little everyday scenes like light on a pillar, perfume bottles on a shelf, yellow-lit building against blue sky. And you have the skill to show the viewer what you saw. I love your other shots too, but I think that eye and skill is what sets you apart from the "typical." Great work.

Hey Rooz!:) Hope you are doing well too!
Wesan, I know you love the blue-yellow combination. I'm glad you like these.:)
Tori, thanks, made my day girl:). I have seen this myself, I get fascinated by movement in patterns.....or something intangible suddenly made tangible in a shot. I'm glad I can make people see what I see. But I haven't reached the stage where I see something and know exactly what settings to use to get it right. I still have a lot to learn. And I have to heal. So as Doc says, I'll get right to it.
Zmikers, I am so glad you like these:).
Until next time...

Chili those pictures are fantastic, I'm glad you're back too. Just kick the sand back in life's face with your photographs. There's certainly nothing you need to learn about conveying feeling.
Lilchilichoco
03-12-2008, 02:41 AM
Phil, wow, thank you!! I'm really glad to hear from you:). Thanks so much for your encouragement. I'm getting ready to kick the sand back into life's face:).
Funny, I couldn't count on so much support where it should have come from....and I find it here......this place where people who've never met...never seen each other meet unseen.........whose lives are lived each day with their own ebb and flow......without a whisper......yet here they are.....cheering on a wounded soldier......
Hey......that's life...ain't it:). And it's amazing!! That is why I won't give up. That is why this is home.
Many,many thanks

Welcome back Lilchilichoco, nice to see you are still around. I was beginning to miss your photos.

Hi Dani, thanks and hope you are doing well too:). Yeah Fiona loves to pose for the cam...I'm quite lucky I get her to pose almost always. But sometimes when she won't, she just won't. No candies and no cupcakes can make her pose. So I know what you mean:). Glad you like her pics. Take care girl. I miss me here too.

Nice pictures again, Lilchilichoco. I like pictures "from the sky" - you can get some nice views "from above". :D My favourites this time, are:
Lone Ranger, because of the loneliness and solitude it conveys.
First Lost City, because of the colours and the shapes.
Cities, because of the details in the landscape.
Life, because of the softness. And because you can see the land disappering into the horizon. It looks like the shape of a heart in the water. Is that why you call it "Life"? The shape also looks like...Australia!
Wing, it's nice with the reflection in the wing. I also like the contrast between the sharpness of the wing and the softness of the background in the picture.
It's nice to see more pictures from you, 2PDG! Hope you're feeling better now. :)
How was your Easter, BTW? Do you celebrate Easter?
toriaj
03-24-2008, 05:05 PM
Nice work, Lil'! My favorite is the 2nd Lost City, again because of its paleness. It's so abstract, you might not know what it was, but for the title. Where did you fly to?
Lilchilichoco
03-26-2008, 01:37 AM
Wesan....I like these for the exact same reasons you liked them for:).
I noticed the heart shape after you wrote about it....sure is there.....but why do I call it "Life" ?........Air, Earth, Water........Sky, Land, Sea.......their expanse all visible in one moment......existence becomes palpable in a moment like this.....that is why...
But it's not Australia...far from it actually......we were flying towards Dubai....I do not know what place it is ....wish I did...
I am feeling better, thanks....with friends like you, one is bound to:)
Yes we do celebrate Easter and we did too, it was good, thanks, how was yours?
Tori, these were taken some time back...I was flying back from India to Dubai, and had taken another airline other than my usual one, and this one flew really low......all along the way, so I could get the shots....I think "Cities" might be Karachi.....I could be very wrong though...should've asked the hostess...
Both "Lost City" were taken when we were landing into Dubai. Hopefully, I'll be flying somewhere else this April, than just running back to hometown every holiday:)....
Thanks for looking guys and taking the time to write as well! Appreciate it.
Best Regards

Hey Wesan, I'm good....thanks for asking:) How are you doing?

Thanks mate, that did make me smile.:)
Long time no pics!
I like the whole series, but I'm absolutely in love with 'Like a lady'....the shy smile on her face, the high contrast look...its awesome!
Regarding 'Flower for you', this is the only one i'm not so sure about...
I mean, if somebody was gifting me a flower, then what would be more important for me... the flower? or the person gifting the flower??
Thanks for sharing:)

Hey Wesan, I'm good....thanks for asking:) How are you doing?

I'm good too, 2PDG.
Nice to see more pictures from you. :) You have a very cute girl. My favourites this time...are a bit hard to choose! :D But I think I'll choose... "Flower for you", "Sun" and "Sunset". And the one of "mama", of course...
May I ask - why did you use such a large aperture in the self portrait? Half your face is out of focus. Did you have an idea about it? I like it, but I think I'd also like to see all of the face in focus, in portraits. Or maybe portraits are not supposed to be all in focus? I'm still trying to learn more about photography... :o

Hi there again:)
Kev, really glad.
Viky, glad you like the series. Flowers for you is an idea of presentation…I wanted to create a little mystery in it…...the suggestion of a little girl. Thanks for looking :)
Adam, thanks, you always make it worth being back:)
Hey Fais, good to hear from you! This was on our way to Jebel Al Dhanna. Could you elaborate on what you mean by “Dubai craze”? Didn’t quite catch on..…..
Lukas, as long as you tell everyone who you stole it from ;):). Glad you like ‘em.
Wesan, my favourite skeptic :). I’m glad you like the shots. Now, the Self portrait….why do we use a wide aperture? From my limited knowledge of the technique of this art, when the light is low and the shot is hand held. That was my primary reason. Since the shot was hand held, I could only go so far from the face, hence the blurring, but I picked this one to post coz it, by chance, did a wonderful thing : it blurred out the face enough to not require skin smoothening, but not so much that the face becomes indiscernible. I knew at the time of taking the shot that there will be blurring, yes. Thanks for keeping on my toes. :)
Thanks again for looking
Best Regards

Hey Fais, good to hear from you! This was on our way to Jebel Al Dhanna. Could you elaborate on what you mean by “Dubai craze”? Didn’t quite catch on..…..
Jebel Al Dhanna...hmm...I've gone to pick berries somewhere near the Ghantoot bridge on Dubai-Abu Dhabi highway....
Dubai craze = traffic, fast lifestyle, inflation etc....the usual complains that fills the newspapers nowdays....
lovely shots bella. flower and the self portrait are my favourites.
Regarding 'Flower for you', this is the only one i'm not so sure about... I mean, if somebody was gifting me a flower, then what would be more important for me... the flower? or the person gifting the flower??
perhaps what is important in this particular shot is not the flower or the person giving the flower. perhaps the important part of the photo is the giving itself. something to consider my friend... :)
May I ask - why did you use such a large aperture in the self portrait? Half your face is out of focus. Did you have an idea about it? there is no right or wrong answer Wesan, it comes down to what you prefer. personally, i like large aperture photos with a shallow dof, so to me the shot is perfect because it draws your eyes to the focal point...which is of course her beautiful eyes.

04-25-2008, 11:27 PM
Lil', these are great shots. Of course, I like your self-portrait the best! I still can't believe you handhold them! I tried that, and it's really hard! :D My 2nd favorite is "Like A Lady." What a fitting title. I love the way the focal length or angle makes her head look bigger, emphasizing her small body. It makes it seem like she's way too grown up! And "Sweet Child o'Mine" is just precious. Thanks for sharing them!
Phill D
04-25-2008, 11:39 PM
To me the flower shot is really unusual & the controlled depth of field on your self portrait really makes the shot have that peeping quality. They are all very good but those two are my favourites.

Hi again :)
Fais, traffic? What traffic? ;)…seriously, is there any country in the world where there are no traffic jams and everyone just flies through the roads to get to there destinations? If there are jams at places, I have seen the government here constantly taking decisions and implementing them to make things better. It’s a very, very big deal for me, as my fellow Indians will know. Sometimes I look around at this beautiful country, and I think, what’s there to complain about? It’s a great place, infrastructure is awesome, the law works, for most that is, ;), the weather’s amazing!! What is there to complain about? There’s definitely a lot to thank for. Yes there is definitely inflation, that worries me. But I’m hopeful it will stabilize. What about countries where there is inflation, and no law, and no infrastructure? Surely this is a way better deal.
I think Jebel Al Dhanna is further ahead from Abu Dhabi, maybe the same highway. I’m taking driving lessons…YIKES!!!!......so hopefully, and that’s a biiiiig hopefully, I’ll get my own car soon. We should get together and go shooting, with your girlfriend and my daughter and hubby. :D
Take care Fais

Rooz, thanks. :) I’m so with you in the ‘giving’ in the Flowers shot. You touched the spirit of the photo.
Tori, girl, thanks! I’m in the opposite dilemma, I can’t get around to shooting on a tripod…:o……I guess I’ll learn it in time. I think the shake reduction might be a wee bit responsible for why I manage to get these shots. In 'Like a lady', my daughter was actually trying to act big girl…so she wore her shades to look like mama:)….and my favorite here is 'Sweet child o’ mine', coz she looks just like she used to when she was a baby sleeping. How I miss her tininess…!!! I could just scoop her up in my arms and hold her close and warm and safe. I often tell her how tiny she was...and how she'd make happy sounds smiling wide with her thumb in her mouth when she saw mama......As she grows up I watch myself resisting-ly letting go little by little as she comes into her own and becomes a little more independent each day…..and I keep going back to that memory of this tiny little thing gripping my finger hard whenever I held her hand….like she’d drown without it…….oh man, it’s so tough and so beautiful seeing your little one grow up and away…..
My other favourite is Sunset, I love the glow of light around her, and 'Picking Berries'...I love the "Then" look in it......and Princess Fiona, coz she's actually posing like the Maharanis and princesses of yore....and 'Again' for the look on her face.....and.....heck....lol...all of them:o:D
Phil, glad you like ‘em, and glad you came by.
Thanks so much for looking guys!:) You are my inspiration.

Hmm....you haven't been here long to know what it used to be. Not as shiny and flashy as now, but much more peaceful.....but well it depends on everyones preference...I like the quiet more than the noise that is created now days...
Driving license....have fun...srsly... :p
I've been hearing lots of horror stories lately from friends...I'm sooooooooooooooooo happy that I got mine earlier...
And once you get your own car, then you'll know what I mean by traffic... :p :p

Aww Wesan....thank you!!:) What a darling you are! It's a nightmare here...getting a driving license....and the toughest part is coming from another country and un-learning everything....lol....sometimes I give a real scare to my instructor.....and she goes ...."What are you doing!!!!!":eek:.....lol.....but it really isn't my fault....India is a place where you drive to save yourself getting hit by other cars....you know....defensive driving....there are no lanes and no rules....well....there are....but who cares!!!!.....it's a constant loud party and everyone's invited...and God help us all!!!!.....:D...so I keep forgetting the rules here. Thanks for your good wishes Wesan:)

Lol Fais, I thought you were complaining about the people complaining about traffic and inflation:). I do go out with hubby and sometimes get a frantic call right after he's left for office..."You can't believe the traffic!!!!"....but that's rare. I've only been around a while, but long enough to see new roads sprout in a matter of days....and new bridges in a matter of months. I was just noting the fact that there are problems, but I have faith they will be tackled almost as fast as they appear....I've seen it happen.

Tori, glad you like these...even if it sounds like a cliche..I mean it. This bench was at the entrance of a resort in the desert....there's a whole establishment ahead of it....but I wanted it to be the context of the desert. No Fais, I did not keep it there:p

Lil', I'm glad you got to have one of those days :) Their happiness extends just a little into the mundane days, I think.
I just love "Giggle." It seems like such a natural moment. And the light, exposure, and colors in "Sunshine" are so nice. I love the little path leading away, and the contrast between her hair and the light-colored plants really makes the shot.

Bella, I see you added lots of very nice pictures to this thread.
I really love the picture Flower for you. I think the use of the shallow depth of field is very good. I do not mind that the person is not in focus. In fact, this makes this picture sort of universally applicable. Like Rooz said before me, it really represents the act of giving. Very, very nice.
I also like your landscapes, especially the first and the fifth (the one with the bench). Very nice compositions and I really like the use of black and white in the fifth.
Finally, I really love the lighting in your picture 'Sunshine'. I also like the other shots. Very nice portraits.
I hope your driving lessons are going well.
Cheers,
Dennis
Bout time you got off your backside & got good again.:D We all do it mate, congrats for the last two additions, they are good & I can see your personality in them too, you're growing up bella, & so is that little heartbreaker of yours. Oh! More nice pictures from 2PDG! :D
In the "Peace and Quiet" series, my favourites are the first (of the beach with the tree in silhoutte in the foreground) and sixth (of the rocks or stones in the sand). The last one, "Serene Sunset", is also very nice. I think I like the one of the rocks in the sand the most, for some reason. Like Whitney Houston says in one of her songs ("So Emotional", I think) - "I don't know why I like it. I just do!". :D
And your girl is always cute, of course. I like "Sunshine", although maybe it has a little too much contrast. Not sure. Did you add contrast in post processing, to enhance the "sunshine feeling" to it? "Smile for mama" and "Giggle" are also favourites. It looks like you have captured a couple of special moments in those.
As always - well done, 2PDG! :)

Hi again….it was my daughter’s birthday on 4th and so Bella got late responding….
Thanks Tori, I love ‘giggle’ for exactly that reason…the natural-ness of it. Seems like ‘Sunshine’ is everyone’s fav :).
Thanks FlipMarC!! :)
Dennis, thank you! I’m so glad you came by……you are the 'Lord of Landscapes!!' It’s amazing how you make a landscape look magical and right out of a fairy-tale.
Driving lessons are going well, thank you :)
Good to hear from you Dennis!
Kev!! Hi there! Thank you and I am so glad I could get off my backside to get these shots!! Sole credit to all of you guys here….you are the best!!! And I am trying hard to remember…..what was the last camera phone I had?;):)
Fais, it’s not a crayon…lol….Wesan ..she’s six going on 16!!! It’s a lip gloss:)… My daughter wants to try out all mama’s make up….so she had the lip gloss in her hand sulking because I said she as too young to use it.
Fais she loves to pose, so that helps…usually it’s not the heat or cold but her mood that gets in the way of a shot.
And don’t worry, I don’t mind the heat ….I’ll come out with you ….you only gotta ask Fais!!!;):D
Wesan….glad you like them. For some reason, I love the stones on the beach too…..maybe because it’s the shadow of the departing day.
I think I used curves with Sunshine, so yes I guess I did turn up the contrast.
I love all her shots, but what breaks my heart with love is 'Flower'…..and 'Beauty'.....coz she’s a little girl and a big girl all at the same time….
Thanks for looking!
Best Regards

Hi Wesan, :)
Thanks for remembering me and guess what....? I was thinking of DCRP the exact same moment because I got this assignment to do a few desserts AND photograph them for one of the two leading dailies here in Dubai :). I love to bake and I create my own recipes for various salads and main courses. So this is a lovely op. Hope it goes well. I'll post the shots once I am done with the final product.
Thanks for coming by Wesan. I am glad you are doing well.....I miss everyone here too...big Hello!!! to everyone!:)
Till next time
Best Regards
Wesan

Wow! Congrats to the assignment! :) That sounds very cool, fun and interesting - baking and taking photos for a leading daily newspaper! Sounds like you've got a new career (or two!) going for yourself! Well done, 2PDG. You make us proud here! :D
Now, tell me - what's the secret of getting an assignment to take photos for a leading daily paper?
Lilchilichoco
08-23-2008, 01:27 PM
Lol!! Having a friend who freelances for the paper:D.
It's not a very big assignment...it's part of a food supplement....but yes...it could be a start...though I'm getting a bit concerned coz in print my shots are way too soft....even after the sharpening...I hope it's me and not my cam. I'll probably come back to you wonderful people with my questions about on-print softness...:(
Till then, wish me luck!!:)
Wesan....you're my guy:)

which news paper...????
and congrats on the assignment...and best of luck!!!!
What dpi settings are the pictures you print at???
Lilchilichoco
08-26-2008, 02:38 PM
Hey Fais, thanks! I'll tell you when it comes out.......though I wouldn't believe it till I see it...you know....many a slip....?:)
If you are asking about dpi with regards to my on print softness issue....I do not know what dpi Image Arts uses....what I do know...is that I can be a complete flubber (from the movie 'Flubber', as in just go hopping nuts) when I get a scare. Everyone's seen it when I first got my cam.....I go "There's a green line in my shot!!! There's a green line in my shot!!!"....turns out it's lens flare....then I go," There are bars in my prints!!! There are bars in my prints!!!" ...turns out the printer decided to get sleepy on my prints....
So, I got my images printed at the 'resized for web' size.....and then I did the flubber. Tori was a darling and saved me from myself.
How are you and Divina doing?
Best Regards
faisal
08-28-2008, 12:13 AM
I'm doing fine....just a little bored as I'm still unemployed sitting at home doing nothing!!! :(
Devina...well she's doing great...she's starting off as a editor for a small college magazine...
I'm also waiting for my first proper published photos also (for the magazine Devina works for and I freelance for)....so we are in the same boat....kinda!!!
Regarding prints....remember that the prints for the food supplements won't be too large....so don't worry cause if there are any Image quality issues (while printing), it's not your camera.... :)
How is your bundle of sunshine (i.e daughter) doing??
Lilchilichoco
08-28-2008, 02:55 AM
Sorry I got Devina's name wrong:o. So, wow, she's the editor and you're the freelance photographer!!!....Congrats:)!! My stint just happened quite unexpectedly...and suddenly. I sort of got tired of taking shots aimlessly...but when you have a goal...oh man I was supercharged!!! :) I had 3 days, to work out the recipes, try them and photograph them.....friend's salads was maybe 1 hour job.....I didn't have much control over that.....plus no proff light set up.......so I keep going back and thinking "I could've done this.....I should've done that"....the usual post-production jitters. Yeah I guess for small prints it shouldn't be much of an issue.
Please convey my congratulations to Devina. It's a damn good start. Both of you can build a body of work you can show as your portfolio while bidding for future work.
My bundle of sunshine is not allowed in one of her friends' house coz her friend's cousin has a crush on her.
The guy is 3.
:)
She's well Fais, growing up real real fast....she's already sounding 12!! Thanks for asking.
All the best to both of you!
Take care

well I am a FREE freelance photographer for now...hoping to get proper (Read: Paid) professional photographer but till now I've been shrugged off as being too inexperienced...
you don't need professional lighting to get good results... http://www.dcresource.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39655
(Just a little PP and some compromises ;))
hahaha....3 year olds nowadays
sounding like a 12 year old...already!!!! they grow fast nowadays...I used to sound like a 12 year old till I was 16...
(though I still act like one most of time :p)
Thanks and I'll shall forward the congratulations to Devina.. :)
Lilchilichoco
08-28-2008, 03:43 AM
Wow!!! That's good Fais! I'm inspired:)!
Free freelance...well....That's okay....it's experience....it'll get you there.
The 3 year old does an Addam from Addam's Family on my daughter when he sees her lol...you know...the arm kissing? LOL!!!! And my daughter says, "I can't push him away mumma,he's so small he'll fall!!!" I told her it's better to let them fall..big or small...
I guess I am in regression then....I still sound 16 :)...passionately, tearfully involved with and completely willing to be overwhelmed by music, wind, sky, sunshine,cars,chocolate,joy..........burst into laughter every now and then at http://www.comics.com/creators/wizardofid/archive/wizardofid-20080822.html for a week straight.......eat Lemon Tea cake and close my eyes and spin around coz I totally love it....
I'm 36.....hubby is in shock since the time we got married;)

08-28-2008, 12:48 PM
Thanks....product shots are really fun!!! Just need a little more lighting equipment though...and that costly macro lens....
hmmm...I used to love the Adams Family music...and the cartoon was fun to watch (I'm a cartoon/animation freak :D )
I agree to it all....big or small...they need fall!!! (I was tempted to make it rhyme further ;) )
My Niece is a complete bully...whacks any guy randomly anywhere.... :D
Would love to capture the spinning emotion on camera....that'll be a cool picture!!!
Lemon cake...I've never had that....
At least you're not overwhelmed (and dropping all over) by any new chocolate Hero from our Bollywood like any other 16 year old filmy girl....that's just weird, weird and....weird!!!!
So when are we meeting up for a shoot???
p.s check my blog...there are some cool pictures of Salalah there that I'm just too lazy to post here....maybe later :o
Also my labour series of picture had gotten selected for the DSS photography exhibition.... :)

Hey Devina:). He didn't pass on my congrats to you? Men!!!;) I'm sure you are going to do well.
Thanks and I'll let you guys know for sure. And you can call me Bella:) or L'il as Tori calls me...or 2pdg....I mean you can shorten it:)
All the very best girl!

Lilchilichoco
08-29-2008, 03:04 AM
Wow!!! Selected for DSS exhibition? That's wonderful Fais! So who says you are 'inexperienced'? Where can I see it? Well done boy!!
Lemon Tea cake is my recipe...and if all goes well it will be appearing in this food supplement. And it's gorgeous:) Devina can try it for you if she doesn't mind baking for you;) And then you can do the spinning thing too:)
I admire your niece....it doesn't pay anymore to be all ladylike these days....will have to toughen up me daughter:cool:
And this is going to get me in trouble with my countrymen......except for the rare exception of parallel cinema (Prakash Jha, Govind Nihalani, Gulzar, younger Mahesh Bhatt ) and a few sensible new age movies (Dil chahta hai), I, with my whole being, detest the Bollywood thing. I couldn't care less about any hero in Bollywood. And I can't stand the idiocy they churn out furiously. I never did. So, wierd? I find them nauseous!!!! So, there, you can brand me traitor. But maybe I was in the wrong place the whole time.....;)
I'll schedule meeting up with you guys....right now I'm using my weekends to meet up a guitarist...yeah.....maybe you'll see me on open mic :)
Take care
faisal
08-29-2008, 05:58 AM
Well it was up from the 12th to 19th of August so it's over now...Here are the 3 (out of the 11 of the series) picture they displayed...

http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q121/faisal7/400D/helmets.jpg
There is a higher chance of me trying out your recipe and baking the lemon cake than Devina....
I don't like majority of the films that Bollywood dishes out....I think they lack the main ingredient called originality. Most of them seem to be a compilation of various other foreign or Indian films all put together. Though I do like a few of the new directors who seem to be making films about different concepts that interest me....
Guitarist...If you can't play it click pictures...I think a guitar is fun to shoot especially if you want to have some DOF fun!!!
Do you know how to play a guitar??
Btw...Devina...I forgot to tell you when we spoke and when I did remember you didn't answer the phone...
Lilchilichoco
08-31-2008, 01:11 AM
Wow Fais!!!.....very, very nice!! :) You do us all proud here!!!
Lol......then when you bake Devina can do the spinning thing :)...if she likes it that is.
I am learning to play the guitar....and yeah it makes a fascinating subject to photograph....I'll try it definitely.
I'm just off Bollywood.
And Devina...he explained...so forgive him, eh?;)
Take care you two.

Khaleej Times....argh.....I'm a Gulf news person...anyway congrats again...
I like all the shots except the 'lemon tea cake' and the 'spiced apple parcels'. I don't like the part that they are not as well lit as the others.....Also among the ones I like, some of them are too tightly cropped for my liking though I love the DOF affect!!!
Anyway overall cool shots, very professional looking......any information on what lens you used to shoot and how you lit your subjects.....
So when do I come over for a snack??? :p

09-07-2008, 03:26 AM
Rooz, Adam, Tori, Thanks guys:)!!
Phil I'm so glad the shots made you hungry. That was the intention:D
Fais....I am a Gulf News person too!!! I don't even have a copy of the issue yet, just saw it at the neighbour's place. They've cropped a couple of my shots and I didn't like that because the atmosphere is gone. But I noticed that perhaps sometimes they need to put the food in focus....or the print would be small and if they print the whole image, the food might get lost. But I can't forgive them for cropping Lemon Tea Cake!
That and Spiced Apple Parcels are primarily atmosphere shots. The Tea cake is a warm piece of cake on chilly winter evening sitting around the fireplace....!! The spiced apple parcels are festive. Lol....the tea cake happens to be my favourite of the lot....it's low light I know....but I love warm, fuzzy feeling it gives me....:)
What a night!! I was supposed to provide 4 dessert recipes, at the last moment I decided to do 6....and at 1 am in the morning, I am running from the kitchen to the table preparing the Apple Parcels as the last thing to photograph, before that going nuts trying to shape them similar, I have no comfortable light.... poor cam almost got roasted in the oven in the confusion!!!! That I got a shot is a wonder!!! Then drove to Media City at 2:30 am to drop the cd with the shots coz the editor wanted it on his table the next morning.....then all aglow with achievement (the driving....not the shots;)), snailing through Jumeirah road at 3 am to In Praise of the vulnerable man, (what a song!!!) fell in love with Dubai once again.....
That night was the best part:)
Anytime Fais....but tell me what would you like to have? I am thinking Berry Yoghurt IceCream?:D
Thanks Devina....though nothing beats someone eating a muffin you baked and say, "I thought it was Starbucks!":D Oh well.....that's maybe bit too nice...
I made these things in my head.....no improvisations....straight off from my head. I think the tea cake recipe struck me at around 2 am.......so I'm really proud of them.:) Do try them if you wish to.The photos I could've done so much more. But I hope I will get more chances to do better.
Once again.....many, many thanks!!
Best Regards
who knows, maybe you'll find time in your busy schedule to comment on other peoples photos aswell bella. :)

Kiddo - you've come so far in a short time. Those are some very nice shots and I would imagine some tasty treats as well. Very nice lighting and use of dof. I like the background elements - you did well choosing them.
The ones that really stand out for me are : Date and Walnut Muffins, Spiced Apple Parcels, and Smoked Chicken and Baby Spinach Salad. Those are shots that could easily be in any food publication. They are all good though.
You should be very proud of those and know that I am proud of you for taking those much needed steps. Great job.

Hello everyone,
My first professionally printed photographs came out today in The Ramadan Food Supplement of Khaleej Times, Dubai.
These were my submissions...
Well...I don't have much to add to what the others have said already... Congratulations! Very well done, 2PDG!
I guess this makes you a pro now? The pics look professional to me, at least. I think you just got your new career started! :D
When do you start teaching classes? ;)
Sorry, I can't write anymore now - suddenly I got very hungry...

09-07-2008, 10:21 AM
Devina is a Khaleej times subscriber but she didn't get a copy...
So the crops you put here are the cropping that they did?? [and you just copied it]
so you shot these with your pop up flash and ambient lighting ???
"The Tea cake is a warm piece of cake on chilly winter evening sitting around the fireplace....!!"
Never happening here...who uses a fireplace here. The closest thing you'll get is the fake fire in that MOE restaurant near Ski Dubai!!!!
The problem with the tea cake, I don't know the warm fuzzy feeling so to me it seems like an underexposed shot...hmm...I think I'll like that on the menu....
Fell in love with Dubai in the middle of the summer....you're crazy :p
Roasted camera....err...that won't be nice though you could have sold it in the name of art like this car http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDkFKLk39b8
Anyhow we need to stop delaying this meeting...I really need to eat the food you cook, photography is secondary now... :D
Lilchilichoco
09-07-2008, 09:16 PM
:) Rooz.....I wonder if I know anything beyond 'the feeling'.....and that most often results in underexposed photographs:rolleyes:....so till Bella learns how to get that feeling without going underexposed.....she shall hold her piece...er....peace!
Thanks for everything. Especially for 'Bella'.
Grampa, thank you! :)The Smoked Chicken photo has been put on the Index page as well....
I hope you know that I couldn't have done it without your gentle push....even when I dropped out...
Thank you.
Wesan!!! :) I wish I could throw a virtual party and bake and cook for everyone here......
Fais.....lol.....how much summer can you feel in your car? Yeah but that doesn't change the fact that I am crazy;) I could go out on a hot sticky evening and breathe in the choking humid air and still fall in love with this city.
That video!!Yikes!!! Poor car!! Yeah something like that....I almost dropped my cam in the oven while removing the tray from it:rolleyes:
Can't feel warm and fuzzy? Use your imagination!! It'll take your mind off the darn underexposure.:)
Devina should've got a copy coz the subscribers got it. Maybe you could ask neighbours...like I did..:)
I'm sorry I missed answering your question about the lense-
it's the nifty 50, mostly available light, with the exception of Spiced Apple Parcels.....and I think I might have used the flash for a couple of shots.
Oh yeah I guess we could meet up....I fell out with my guitarist coz we didn't agree on our opinions of music so no more open mic for me as of now:(
Oh well I'll get cooking to chase away the blues! I'm far more use as a cook than a photographer......ask hubby;)
Just wanted to share this, almost everyone whom I asked preferred this shot to the colder one, but I went with the colder one coz the mousse was a cold dessert.
Orange Mousse 2
39586
I love this shot-- for the play of light, for the warmth, for the drama. I used a small lamp for this effect.
Went to Khaleej Times yesterday....they are paying peanut shells......but maybe, just maybe, I get to do more stuff, if and when.......Inshallah!!
Best Regards
:) Rooz.....I wonder if I know anything beyond 'the feeling'.....and that most often results in underexposed photographs:rolleyes:....so till Bella learns how to get that feeling without going underexposed.....she shall hold her piece...er....peace!

Big Thanks again Fais. I saw your Salalah shots.....very nice.....looks like a lovely place. Must visit. have you been to Musandam?
And the question about the crops, the shots I have put up are the original pictures submitted. They cropped my mousse, to no orange and white in the background..... and tea cake.....unforgivable!!!

I have not experienced your problems lately, 2PDG. But I remember I had some kind of similar problems before, a long time ago. I couldn't log in. It had to to with my web browser not accepting cookies. So you could try to check the settings of your web browser, if it is accepting cookies. If it does not, you should change the setting.

Hi avi, long time! How have you been? I'm glad you like them all:)...although I noticed later that the first of the creek is over-sharpened...will change that.
Hi there Tori, I've missed you too girl....and myself here....hope you are doing well.
Lukas, glad you like....though the pink flower is one of the most boring shots I have taken....I just liked the color and I wanted to take a sharp shot of the flower. My fav of these would be the Lone Leaf and Light Paints.
thanks for looking guys!

Finale...

I never quite believed Paulo Coelho in The Alchemist. This incident made me believe it. When they visited us in October, I fell in love with this little girl who incidently has my hair, and God how I yearned to take her portrait....but there wasn't any time and they left and I was left with this dull ache deep in my heart that I lost this chance...and that she would grow up and I'll never be able to capture this innocent beauty again....
But I guess when you do want something really bad....the whole Universe conspires to get it to you.....
Wishing everyone their heart's desire this Christmas.....
Peace & love

Lol Lilchili2....sure we can Grampa....my cousin always says with those hair she looks far more mine than hers:).
Yes.....the Universe grants you sometimes.....I guess only when you want it so bad you don't know it yourself. I know I did.....
Thanks for your wish Grampa, I wish you the same.
Hey Tori, it's always a joy to hear from you:). I love Finale too.....and all the others:D

Oh, it's good to see a self-portrait again, and with a smile! It's beautiful.
My prints never look quite the same as they do on-screen. Some printers apply processing to the pictures to bump the saturation and contrast, some just seem to have a "color shift" ... I've learned which printers I want to stay away from.

Thanks Tori....I got courageous and got a daylight shot...no make up and no pp. I like the smile too...tho my teeth need a whitening appointment:(
I meant different from on my screen when I see it as a shot in my pictures. It just sort of loses the 'pop'.
Anyway.......a couple from New Years Eve.....10 pm there's a crazy fog in D-U-B-A-I.......can ya believe it...? It wasn't even close to cold.....just nippy...wonder what it is......
couple for-the-record shots...
Grand Hyatt road

I'm jealous of your fog, we rarely get any here (like maybe once every few years, and only before sunrise.) It's just too dry. So are you saying that the photos look different after you post them here on DCRP, than they do when you view them in other applications on your computer (such as your PP program?) The only thing I've ever noticed like that is sharpness, sometimes they look softer here on DCRP. But I've heard that color displays online have to do with your RGB and sRGB settings. Like they need to be the same in your PP program as they are on standard internet browsers (is it that browsers default to sRGB?) Otherwise you colors look weird. Someone else could explain it much better than me though.

That's a nice fog you have in Dubai. Must be pretty cold out there
Lilchilichoco
01-06-2009, 12:06 PM
Yeah I think it is the color space. Thanks for pointing out Tori!
And the fog is lovely really......it's just funny when you roll down the window and it's like you stepped out on the porch on a September eve........kinda freaky...
avi....that's exactly what was strange.....it wasn't cold at all.....

Oh Damn!!! I haven't been here for ages!!!
So I'm going to comment on every series of pictures that you've posted so be prepared for a long post!!!
Page 36...Series one!!
I like the first Sunset shot...
and how come you shot near the Sharjah Airport, I never get my camera out there....cause of those scary looking police personnel!! :(
The leaf picture is totally my favourite shot out of all the plant shots!!!
And did I tell you that I was totally jealous of the fact that you got to shoot the Jag!!!
National day series
Unfortunately I didn't get out much during the national day celebration apart from covering the car show at Festival city. I was more interested in enjoying the rain!!! Did you get any rain shots???
I feel some of the creek shots are too tightly framed....though I really like the reflections you got!!
Light paints is totally a very nice shot....you must have placed the camera on the dashboard !!!
Page 37...Niece Series...
The only thing that I really noticed are those lovely big eyes....though weirdly the overexposed shot is my favourite even though here eyes are not wide open...
Page 38...Big Girl Series...
The little one looks really cute in that first shot though I like #7 the best...but I don't know why!!! Maybe it's the colour coordinated look that reminds me of the early 90's dressing sense plus that string attracts my attention...
Btw funky shoes!!!
Christmas series
I like that last shot....what are those??? home made???
nice self portrait...I can never manage good shots of myself....
Fog series
You must be kidding me that it wasn't cold!!!
I can never get good fog shots cause my parents don't let me get out...too dangerous to drive supposedly!!! :(
I like the Grand Hyatt shot...love the way the trees look with those street lights adding that glow around them.
I'm done!! :D

Hey Fais, good to see you here:)
Thank you for taking the time to look and write a long post. Appreciate it. Now here comes mine.
Oh man...of course there are cops at Sharjah Airport, but I had no idea you couldn't click photos there.....I mean my folks are leaving....I want a last minute shot.....the sun came at the right time so there you go! That's at the Departure door btw. I think 2 scurrying couples with cute kiddies probably weren't such an alarm:D
The leaf is totally my fav also.....I love the sun in it.....
Lol....the Jaguar....I had no idea before I took on that....he said something about another person the day I was shooting the Jag, and I thought, wait...is that Faisal? And he said as much.
Yeah the creek shots aren't exactly how I wanted....the trouble was either there was complete darkness on each side or there were these yachts and dohs all over so that there was no clear view....plus you know they have a new...station?.....ruined the entire view must say.
And no...no rain shots....
I like Light Paints too. Yeah I think I had the cam on the dash.
My gorgeous niece...yeah the eyes....and the way her face speaks to you even when she is not looking at you....Gosh I wish I had another girl:eek:
And she asks her mum, "Mama, where Maasi?", tilting her beautiful curly head and gesturing with her chubby hands....gosh....no one could not fall in love!
Big Girl......my baby's first Salwar Kameez...definitely big girl....she reminds me of the old Indian heroines... sort of Saira Bano-ish....
You like the shoes?…you should see mama’s;)
The muffins....oh yeah all home made....chocolate peanut butter baby muffins on the tiered server for the kiddies and ginger caramel muffins with rum icing for the oldies, the last of which you see.. and the Christmas cake which I could not/did not shoot:mad:
And lol.....it wasn't cold at all on New Years Eve!!.....I loathe winters...I'd rather hibernate than shrink into a ball....and the winters I have seen in Rajasthan...remember it's desert too.....this was nothing!
The fog wasn't so bad while driving....
Take care Fais
Have a wonderful year ahead. And if you need a model for practising your portrait skills...I'm free;):)
Thanks again

Being a female in this country has sooooooooo many advantages when it comes to photography. At the airport when I my dad dropped himself off and I shifted to the driving seat, the officer asked me where I was going...and I wasn't even doing anything wrong....
The leaf is totally my fav also.....I love the sun in it.....
I have a similar shot..I'll show it to you when I upload it... :)
Lol....the Jaguar....I had no idea before I took on that....he said something about another person the day I was shooting the Jag, and I thought, wait...is that Faisal? And he said as much.
I love shooting cars...but unfortunately he hasn't asked me to do any shoots for him...maybe because I told him his pictures are terrible!!!
Yeah the creek shots aren't exactly how I wanted....the trouble was either there was complete darkness on each side or there were these yachts and dohs all over so that there was no clear view....plus you know they have a new...station?.....ruined the entire view must say.

But I adore her.... :D
Big Girl......my baby's first Salwar Kameez...definitely big girl....she reminds me of the old Indian heroines... sort of Saira Bano-ish....
Where's the Salwar Kameez picture???? (unless I missed it)

Susan Sarandon...had to google that to see who she was....hmm...I don't see any resemblance....but maybe that's because I can't get over the RED lipstick that reminds me of the RED lipstick I had been forced to wear when I was in my 1st standard for an show or something....aaaaaahh!!!
By the way the experimental PP does not work for me....

Hi Fais, maybe we should get on the phone :)
Salwaar Kameez was the 1st and 2nd of Big Girl, hidden by the coat...that's what reminded me of Saira Bano era dressing up. No worries if you can't remember that actress of yore, I am way older than you:)
I remember Susan Sarandon's expression in a movie....guess you'll have to see her movies;)
The Jag...well, he doesn't think good pictures to be important for the site.....hasn't asked me either.
Nice shot there of your niece....love that Maamu Jaan.......like I totally love how Aanu says "Where maasi?" as if there never was an "is" there.
They've made something like a waiting room at the creek. Absolutely ruined the view.
The Dark Dream is reminiscent of a scary dream to me.....
Red Lipstick...lol....we are 16 cousins and when we got together for summer hols....used to do this always to the little boys...making them all girls...lol.
Do show me the leaf shot.
I'll pay you muffins for the portrait session....what say:)?
Take care

Got any shots of the Lightning last night???
I got plenty and might get big brother to put it up online in one of the ITP publishing sites...for exposure in the company!!! :D
My number is on my website....feel free to call anytime...I'm off to India (after 17th years) on the 30th of this month...kinda excited about the prospects of getting some cool shots there...
And it's a Deal!!!! :)
Btw why would you want to make a picture to remember your scary dream...those are best forgotten....
Lilchilichoco

Nope...no lightning shots.....I was too busy being scared...the whole place rumbling and the windows rattling......almost died of a heart attack at one of the loud cracks over my head.
Good for you though....jo dar gaya so mar gaya:)
Wow....17 years!! All the best. Where will you be landing?
Actually tried the pp for an assignment....so thought I will put it up here coz I liked it. Though when I uploaded it at another site it came out all fuzzy and totally lost the detail....no idea what happened.
