buying and returning same camera but different serial number to store

I have a question, i bought a sony dsc-v3 from staples but found a cheaper price elsewhere and bought that camera. However, I want to return the one i bought from staples and I was moving around boxes and got the camera boxes mixed up.

Now I don't know which camera box is the one I got from staples and which is the one I got cheaper online.

Do you think retailors mind if I return the same camera but maybe with a different serial number?

Or do they have tracking for which serial number camera was sold?

If the serial # is on your receipt then they track it and you won't be able to return one with a different serial #. Check both your receipts and see if they have the serial #. If niether has the serial # then try to return one and see what they say. If the computer won't accept it then bring the other one in. You might want to have both with you at the same time but leave one in your car and then if they say it's the wrong one just tell them the truth and go get the other.
