When I bought my DSLR, my daughter took control of the family point-n-shoot. If you don't want to keep your old camera as a back-up or second body or travel camera, consider donating it. The art teacher at you local high school will be happy to have it.

If it's not worth it give it to someone you like.:)

That all depends on how useful the old digital camera is or how much it is worth on the secondary market. I have a fairly new point and shoot Canon PowerShot now that will probably be given to one of my kids when I decide to replace it some day.
However my second digital camera, an Olympus D-550Z, was sold off on eBay for more than the new camera cost. The old Olympus used SmartMedia flash memory which is highly sought after on eBay. So what I did is sell off all my extra memory (256MB total) first for $90 USD. Then later I sold off the camera itself for $62 USD. So I received $152 for my old Olympus camera and my new PowerShot only cost $130. I spent the rest of the money on a 1GB SD card and called it good. Not only did I bump the image quality from the old camera to the new I also increased my memory storage capacity four fold.
If the old camera is broken, sell it on eBay anyway. People will buy it working or not.
As far as my Digital SLR camera goes, it will probably always stay in the family. My second daughter has shown great natural photographic ability at only 6 years of age. So she will probably inherit that one.
