Hello, It took me forever to get my computer to recognize my new A460, thankfully I found this website, which helped me out, now that I have the camera connected, I don't care for the Canon software, I use windows camera wizard it's simple, fast, gets the job done, my question is what can I safely delete and still be able to use the camera with Windows? I don't want to use anything Canon, I want to keep only the bare minimum, just the drivers, that's all, anyone know how I can go about doing this? thanks in advance.

just unistall the canon software, take a test picture and plug the camera in ... in case Windows still needs a driver or so it'll tell ya

Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel.

Windows can still see cameras, scanners, printers, and other such devices without installing the "software" for them.

So I went to Add/Remove programs, uninstalled everything Canon and then connected the camera and it worked! Thanks for the replies, I much prefer Windows camera wizard + a pic editor like IrfanView over Canon bloatware.

I don't even use the wizard. Just open My Computer, and your camera will be at the bottom of the list as a "drive". You can open it and access the files you want.

I do use some of the Canon software, but really only for one thing. I like how you can connect the camera, have the window pop up, and with one click it copies all the data off the memory card to a folder that is named after the date the pictures were taken. So if you shot over a few days, it would split them up by date. I think its the "Camera Window". Zoombrowser is neat too, its better for reviewing the pictures than the Windows Picture Viewer because it doesn't blur the pictures when viewing them at other than full size.

I don't use any of the editing tools though, I leave that to CS2 and Bridge which is a great setup.

Thats what the wizard does, I connect the camera via cable, and the wizard pops up, creates the folder and all its great, fast, simple, I could do the memory card in the reader thing, but I take many pics and want to transfer them frequently, If were to keep taking the card out, I think the battery cover/mem card cover would eventually break, I had an mp3 player with a similar cover and gave after a while, I hope this won't do the same.

I have heard good things about Irfanview.
I need the Canon software to stitch together Panarama pictures.
Can you do that with Irfanview?

I believe you can, click on image->Create Panorama Image - then work from there, It's a great program it's free and only 1.10 MB, you can download it here:
