Hi, everyone. Hoping to get some advice here!
Two years ago we purchased an Olympus C720UZ, our first digital camera. I am not all that happy with it and am looking for a new camera. Here's what I don't like about the Olympus: big & bulky (does not fit in a pocket, even a big one, thanks to the huge lens); and, more importantly, very poor indoor picture quality. (Without the flash, pics are hopelessly blurry and yellow; with the flash, they are all whited out and there are huge shadows behind the subject of the picture.) I love the zoom on the Olympus and the fact that it takes AA (or rechargeable AA-size) batteries.
99% of the pictures that we take are of our baby daughter, inside, and so it's essential to me that the camera take GOOD indoor pics. The zoom is no longer so important to me. I have never printed a pic bigger than 5x7 so I don't think I need more than 3 MP in a camera. After doing some reading I was set to buy the Canon A85 until I checked it out in person today and also looked at the A75. For nearly $100 less, the A75 is nearly identical (a smidge less zoom and one less megapixel, neither of which is a big deal for me, I guess). I am also intrigued by what I've read about the A80 but I don't know if I'll be able to find one to examine in person (has it been discontinued? It is still available online, fairly cheap at some (questionable?) websites). The swivel LCD could be nice to have with an on-the-move kid whom I can't make smile for the camera when my face is hidden behind it.
Given my criteria-- clear, good-color indoor pics, decent portability, and ease of use since I rarely use the manual settings on our current camera-- which of the Canons do you think I should get-- or should I be considering another digicam all together?
Thank you SO much for your help!
