Every time I use photostitch I always have at least one spot where you can notice a seam. Am I expecting too much? I have tried different ways of taking the pictures. I try overlapping the pictures a lot, I try getting the seams as close as possible without too much overlapping? Has any one stitched together a photo with great success?

Here's some panorama shots for you, along with some tips.

I had the same problem, and I have found that the Photomerge tool in Photoshop CS2 generally does a better job at lining up photos than the Canon Photostitch program.
It also helps if you use the "Perspective" or "Wide" correction. It can even out a photo that just won't line up.

Thanks for the replies. I will keep trying. I don't have photoshop. Someday maybe.. I think I'll try just 2 pictures and see how it works out..

The fewer the number of photos the easier it is for the program to align them. The problem is the perspective, when you turn your camera it is trying to capture onto a flat image a world that is actually curved.

dont know if you've done this trick already.
A common problem I have in stitching is mismatched color, especially the shade of blue of the sky, etc.
Anyway, I sometimes find it better to focus (half pressing the shutter) back to the first image's frame then panning back to shoot the next portions of the panorama. This way, the camera settings would be the same.
You can also set to M (where available), then fix your aperture and speed.

Also, use a tripod if possible to pan. The prevents mis-alignment problems that can occur when shooting by hand.
