I've read quite a bit about these and was wondering if anyone has a good comparison of the two. Which is better? Why?
One is more industrial and one is not. The 1400 supposively has better image quality but the 8500 has higher dpi???? 1400 is slower but what makes this printer half the price?
Anyone have details?

This "thread" (a thread is a question or comment and its responses) is about a specific pair of Kodak printers. Your question is a good one, and fits in the "Photo Printing" topic, but doesn't really belong in this thread.
Perhaps a moderator will move your post to a new thread, or you could create a
new thread by using the "new thread" button in "Photo Printing".

I’m using Kodak 8500 printer with matte ribbon on 8.5 x 12.
Camera: Nikon D100 with the JPG highest compression.
My skin colors, midtones and primary colors are great (with Photoshop CS2 adjustments) but the shadows are horrible. In the place of man's black tuxedo I do have a “black whole” ...
No details at all on black or shadow parts of the image . No continuous tone.
I spoke to technical assistance from Kodak and changed gamma and matte slider in printer properties as he recommended…no difference.
Any suggestions?
Should I try different image adjustmet in the camera or printer settings....?
