View Full Version : Need Help Going Stealth
Ok so my mom always gets season tickets to the GS Warriors. Usually i dont go but this season is going good for them so if the end up playing at home this thursday im going. Now before 9/11 it was easy to sneak stuff in but now a days the really check you coming in the door. I read a thread on this forum a while back about someone not being let in with their dSLR because its too good of a cameras and copyright bs... That being said, Anyone have any good ideas on how i can sneak my D40 and VR55-200 in with me? Im going to be in row 17 center court so imagine the photo ops ill have =)

Back pockets.
I used to sneek in bottles of water or booze into the local game here. No one will be looking at your ass. Take the camera strap off, disengage the lense from your body and go from there. However, I would recommend you re-attach the camera strap once you got into the stadium. Someone will probably knock the camera out of your hands and the strap is an insurance policy.
Find the baggiest pair of britches you've got and use those.
I used this technique a few months back. There was an "open forum" but didn't allow the press in (wtf??) and I sneeked my D70s with 50mm lense in this way. Worked like a charm. Although I had to borrow a pair of pants from a friend of mine, so I was emo for a night (which is ironic since I am a redneck). Still, I got the story :D .
Sweet i know exactly which pair of pants to wear. Im assuming the camera wont go off in the metal detector lol (does it even have metal in it o_O). As much as i want to im fighting the urge to take the kitlens with me for some nice wide stadium pictures :( .
My only problem now is weather i will be able to get some worth while shots on the far end of the court given my seat position (shown in attachment). Now when i first got my VR i took it to a youth bball tourny and took some shots. I quickly learned that once i get into F/4.5 and smaller i just cant get enough light with a fast though shutter to freeze the frame without using ISO1600. And as you can imagine noise completely kills the picture or the picture is just too dark. Here are some examples of what im talking about:

Its obvious that the stadium will have better lighting then a high school gym and im hoping that helps me out big time on the far end of the court. Also i know the celling lights arent THAT bright but should i use the lens hood?
ANY advise/comments/thoughts on the situation would be greatly appreciated! I have until thursday night to figure this out

You probably won't get any decent action shots. A friend of mine was able to get some b-ball shots at f/5.6 but her ISO was like, 3200 (d200, whatever the highest ISO is). It got the shutter speed but the noise was unreal.
With that in mind, its probably not worth your time trying to get pictures if you don't have a fast lense.
yeah ill just sick to the close end because i know i can get good shots there with 4.8 or smaller

Why not ask the venue and stress that the photos will be for personal use only?
funny you should mention that because i just checked the FAQ for the stadium and it says cameras are permitted just no flash. i wonder when that changed
