Maybe it's not a bad idea. I will be there if I can make the time but with a young family that can be hard. For the last 2 footy seasons, I want to shoot Andrew Johns playing but now I miss it altogether.
come on you anti social pack of bastards. :D

How about my old hometown? Interesting photographic subjects aplenty. I will be guide and interpreter. You need a passport and visa though.

Nice one. The rain the past few days is a welcome sight, but I have to work harder to find things to photograph in this weather.

Yeah Mate no problems - met Gontran (Forno) late last year when I went to visit Melbourne and he is a top bloke. Met Gaza (another top bloke but don't tell him) when we did a class together recently.
If we were to meet at some dodgy alley than I'd have misgivings, but I assume we would all meet at some populated spot so it's all cool with me.

I don't regret buying it....it doesn't get used "often"...but it is nice to have it available.
Soligor advise that it requires a minimum focal length of 50mm. I've even thrown it on the Sigma 17-70mm (therefore, limited use) and the Canon 50mm prime lens......and of course the "beast" (Canon 70-300mm IS) :)

Personally, I don't think it is as straight forward as that. I think it is going to depend on what lenses you have as part of your kit.
From what I have gathered on the Nikon thread, there is conjecture as to what option would be better out of a xx-300mm lens Versus xx-200mm lens with TC attached.
I have the 300mm option which, combined with the Canon 1.6 crop factor, gives the equivalent reach of 480mm.
Rooz is considering a 200mm lens which, combined with the Nikon 1.5 factor, gives the equivalent reach of 300mm.
Therefore, while I find 480mm reach sufficient in most instances, I doubt I would be happy with 300mm maximum reach (Rooz's Nikon option)....so use of the 1.7 TC would be greater.
With the possible drop in image quality, as with any TC, you're only going to use it when you need the extra reach. This will obviously be more often with a 200mm lens than with a 300mm lens.

this is a good point you make and you are totally right. i am after an excellent quality telephoto zoom, (the 70-200VR), but i want the reach that my 300mm gave me. hence the question about IQ loss from the TC.
the main reason i wanted to know that is to know if i should sell or keep my 70-300. i really loved the 70-300 cos it was light, small and VR was great. but if the IQ is going to be better with the 200VR plus TC, then i could sell my 300mm with the piece of mind that i will be able to get that reach, (actually a bit more with the 1.7TC), without an IQ issue.
in the DISTANT future, i want to get my hands on a really long zoom like a 400mm, i don;t even mind a 2nd hand MF one.
Rooz from the reading I have done in the past off of fredmiranda, Thom Hogan etc it was agreed that with a teleconverter of 1.4 no noticeable diminish in IQ, 1.7 very very small & most of time you wont notice unless you excell in poor technique, 2.0 it is noticeable.
How does 26th of May sound?
meet at the front of Opera House :)
times?I'd say around 11am or something
just my 2cents

Me busy - weekends are probably too hard for me. Unless it was after a wedding or AFL etc.

I'm in year 12 so friday/weekends is my only time until holidays.

thanks big Kev. i have ordered the 1.7 nikkor from my good friends at HK Supplies. looking forward to using it eventualy with the 70-200VR, then i'll be able to comment on its IQ myself. :)
