I have one of the new Macbook's with the Core2Duo processors. Apparently Photoshop Elements isn't supported on the new processor so I need recommendations on what editing software to buy. I have looked at the CS3, but wonder if it isn't too much for what I need. I just want to crop, edit, etc. I don't want to spend a fortune, but I don't want a limited program either. What would be the best software to buy?

Thanks,

Kerri

Hi Kerri--

You are gonna have a hard time getting a program that's not "limited" without spending some bucks. You got a copy of iPhoto with your MacBook. That's a nice program, but is limited in its editing capabilities. Photoshop CS3 is a great program. It will do everything you want and much more, and runs quite fast on an Intel Mac. It's expensive, but worth it.

Kerri- Your cheapest solution is Photoshop Elements for the PC which you can run by booting your Macbook into Windows XP or Vista using Apple's free Bootcamp software. Bootcamp is free so you're only cost would be $85 for Elements 4.0

The next cheapest solution would be to also purchase Parallels for the Mac so that you can run PC applications such as Photoshop Elements for PC.

Beyond these choices you can go with Photoshop CS2 or CS3 for about $600 or wait until the next release of Elements for Mac which will be a cheap solution that will run on Intel Macs.

You can normally use Photoshop Elements, it will run fine in the PPC emulation mode (Rosetta). Just a bit slower than it would if it would be native Intel code.

But since your computer is fast, you will find working with Photoshop Elements fast enough.

Adobe Lightroom is gorgeous.
