Working with the remote shooting of the S3, I find that the max usb extension is about 30' (see pics). Would like to extend to 100'. Looked at usb to cat5 converters. Are there any more options that do not cost an arm and leg?

Ps.......Seems like female birds also get the last word!!
I've been interested in something myself and was looking at this.

You can buy one or a few and daisy chain them up to 75 feet. I haven't tried these yet though so I can't say if they work well or not. If you get something and like it please update here.

Daisy chaining active usb cables can become very expensive and the slow down of file transfer I cannot estimate.
http://www.vpi.us/usbc5.html. This allows extensions up to 150' using converters, usb to CAT5 cable. Only problem it is usb1. Not sure of the slow down in transfer of image to laptop. If it is not to slow, $80 for the converter and 100' of cat5 cable is a lot cheaper than a usb2 for around $700.
Can any of you computer experts estimate the difference in time with usb1 / CAT5 cable versus daisy chain active usb to 75.

Forgot to mention. Using 35' of extension usb the camera would not work. 33' was maximum extension and have camera function.

My latest search I have found usb 2.0 entenders with 150' CAT5 cable for $99. http://www.sparco.com/cgi-bin/wfind2?spn=H900A56
This appears to be the best buy for what I need.

Simply connect your cables to your device; then connect to your computer and USB peripheral and you're up and running.
I am a bit confused about what would hook to what? Would you use the white cable that came with the camera, hook the USB end to "what" and then how would you have a USB connection at the end to hook to the computer. I guess I don't understand how the Cat cable is connected.
Those are terrific pictures Fran. Where did you have your camera sitting for these?

Hi Bernie,
Camera > usb cable (that came with camera) > usb/cat 5 adaptor > cat 5 cable > cat 5/usb adaptor > laptop/computer.
The photos above were taken on my front porch and I only needed two 10' usb extensions with the camera usb cord. Not often you can work that close. The $100 outfit will be worth more to me than the $108 I paid for the Sony tc.
What happened to the other forum???
