My 6500 FD cable is too short and today I found my old Olympus USB calble with is quite long, may I use it?There is a visible difference in both cables as small coil type part is attached on both sides of Olympus cable where it is only on one side(camera side)on FUJI cable. Please comments and help on this  .

USB cables are fairly standard and can be safely interchanged. The ferrite core (the cylindrical thing) is used to reduce external electrical noise or interference from affecting the signals going through the cable. Having two ferrite cores (one on each end of the cable) would be best. But from experience, with or without it, my USB equipment seems to be working without a hitch.

I use the USB cable from my Sony digital cam (USB to mini-USB) to connect my Canon S3 IS, my old Palm T|E PDA before I sold it, the Sony U20 camera, an external 2.5" hard disk enclosure, and sometimes a multi-card reader. All worked without any problems whatsoever.

thank you so much oj88 I still very much recall your snap of a cellphone which you posted in s3is forum where you used a tripod and then move your camera vertically with a long exposure.
