I have just figured out how much damage I can do with just US$1500! :D;)

Check out the poll and vote the one you THINK will make the best choice...In YOUR opinion!

Explanations for your choice are optional.

Have a good time. :)

1500 ? sheet, thats a decent budget.

nikon d80 $850
tam or sig f2.8 18-50mm or sig 17-70mm ~ $450
sb-600 $250

and you still get some change. enjoy whatever you choose. :)

I would take the 30D over the D80 because I do not want to switch to SD cards.(my opinion) $1120
Just like Rooz the Tam or Sig 17/18-50mm f/2.8 $410-$450

That puts you just above the $1500 mark. If you want to be under, go with the D80 and the same lens.

Ray.

Does that $1500 include tax, shipping, memory cards, extra batteries, a bag? How about a tripod? Any filters? The Nikon RAW software? All that stuff quickly adds up.

All the cameras listed are good. Go to a store and hold them in your hands. Play with them. Hold them to your face and take some shots. Which feels better? Buy that one. Then, choose the best lens you can afford.

Okay,

I been a customer of CDW for many, many years. They also carry the SONY A100 "system" and can effectively get everything that SONY is releasing for it ... and the new bodies, too.

Deals: Deals fluctuate, so I won't be held to this, but after a discussion, this afternoon (4/12/2007), you can get the SONY A100H w/ the DT18-200 lens for ... $999.

23113

Now, that is good deal for this combination (CDW # 1180094). Restrictions are that you can only return a DSLR to CDW if it is defective. They are good about returns, but it has to be "straight up."

If you insist on the standard SONY A100K kit (that is the DT18-70mm kit lens), that price currently stands at $749 (CDW # 994856)

Need one? Call "Harrison" @ 1-877-495-7176 and tell him I referred you ... to get my corporate price break. It's a good deal with good people. I figure I'd share this with all of you. This is one of the few places you can go and not worry about whether or not your purchase will arrive. Even that is worth something.

GET THE SHOT!

I see the Pentax is listed with this lens - Canon can use it too
It's a great lens!
I chose the Nikon as it felt right and I liked it's ergonomics..
Oh, it takes good pictures too - but so does Canon.

Yes, my budget will include a high speed Sandisk Extreme IV 2 GB CF memory card. If the latest Sandisk Extreme IV version isn't available, then I will opt for the Sandisk Extreme III version; which was my original plan.

Why so many people voted for the Canon EOS 30D kit??
(I thought that would probably be the most left out choice; well, I was wrong.) Now I really feel like going for the Canon EOS 30D option already. :p :o

As for the "others" option, that was plenty too...

BTW, I am shooting with a Nikon F100 35mm Pro SLR to be honest, and I have not wanted to get committed to the Nikon SLR/dSLR system yet; so I opted for the (So called only) "cheap" Nikkor AF 50mm F/1.8G prime lens so that I don't need to feel so painful if I should decide to leave the Nikon SLR/dSLR system. (This is also one reason stopping me from buying the SB800 external flash as well.) Because I might suddenly decide to go for a Canon or Pentax you see...(The Nikon F100 SLR was expensive I can tell you; but I wanted it!)

I am just starting out as a photo student and recently my photography lecturers asked us students to get access to a 35mm film SLR camera. I am not so committed to the Nikon system and I am also just starting out in the interchangeable lens/system based arena.

Very soon, I would also be needing a dSLR camera too, however, I have been planning to get a dSLR camera for months already. In fact recently, my dad and mom wanted to bring me out to buy my "long time" awaiting dSLR camera and lens, but it was also at that very moment itself that I needed to get my film SLR camera too, so obviously the plan to get a dSLR camera and lens had to be on hold. Nevertheless, I really want to get my dSLR camera and lens as soon as possible already since the wait have been long...(I would be needing it by the next semester anyway...)

So keep the votes up guys.

Thanks.

The 30D is the only Canon on the list. Canon fans would be more like to vote for that one; besides, with the only one Nikon and one Pentax model stretched into so many lens package options, you'll not get an accurate picture of which camera will carry the highest recommendation.

Maybe try a separate poll for camera and lens?

The thing is;

I have only US$1500 to spend, so I am including the possible options that my budget will allow me. Actually I am not interested to know which camera or lens will get the highest recommendation respectively. Rather, I am interested to know which lens and body above will get the highest recommendation.

I hope you can understand my point. :)

If I wanted to know which body will get the highest recommendation, then I would have stated the bodies only without the lenses. Likewise if I wanted to know which lens will get the highest recommendation, I would have stated the lenses only; for voting.

i think you may be confusing popularity with recommendation. typically these sort of polls run with voting by members for whatever gear they own. there may be a few exceptions but generally speaking thats the way it goes.

If this is the case, then I shall let things be as it is.

I will get to observe other people's taste in here as a result. :)
