Hi all,
Anyone have any experience with the Pentax K10D? I'm planning to get one atm, but would like to hear of actual real-world experience. How good is the weather-proofing? I guess it's that and the IS that won me over. On the other hand, I've been pretty rough to my fuji finepix f10 (metal body compact), taking photos in light rain, on the beach, in dust etc, and have never had any problems at all. So is the weather proofing a waste of time?

Also, the various review sites mention a dodgy JPEG compression algorithm. Is it that bad? While I will undoubtedly be shooting in RAW sometimes, I take too many photos to do that for every shot. So are JPEG's straight out of the camera still good?

Any other issues?

Thanks,
Steve

Steve,
The weathersealing on the camera is pretty secure from what I understand. I've heard stories of it used in rain, dust, and all kinds of situations. There's even a photo online somewhere of someone submersing it under a kitchen sink! Not sure if it was a gimmick or not, but you never know.

As for the JPEG compression, it's said to have a more film-like appearance in comparison to the sharpening commonly done in other dSLRs. However, this can easily be changed by bumping up the default sharpening in the camera. I would advise you to check out www.dpreview.com and look at the Pentax SLR forum if you would like to talk to many knowledgeable Pentax users.
