WOW! Seems to be quite a spending spree around here over the past couple of months.

Add me to the mix!

On their way from the Canon stork:

17-55 2.8 IS
85 1.8Add that purchase to the:

Giottos GB4180 Pro Tripod
Manfrotto 322RC2 Grip Action Ball Head with QRNow, is there any chance I can save up for another body and a 70-200 2.8L IS by September 15 for my first solo wedding gig??

Anybody got some cash for a lottery ticket??

That's some nice gear you got coming, perfect for weddings. Hey forno where did you buy your 17-55 from? I'm guessing not from a local store since it's taking so long and being mailed to you.

I got it from Hong Kong, but the problem is the money clearing from my bank account to my paypal account:mad:

Yep...I am happy with the addtions and upgrades. Couple of my little commerical shots are paying off!!!

Awe geeze:o , thanks for the compliment! I just wish I had the sceanic access you have. Bloody southeastern Michigan couldn't be more flat and boring! I still have a HELL-OF-A-LOT to learn about post processing tho...but finally having a decent computer and calibrated monitor sure as heck helps!!

EXACTLY the reason I started diving a little deeper into RAW! Just the ability to adjust exposure is worth the extrea CF and disk space!

I agree, i only started shooting raw at the start of 2007 because I had to do a wedding and wasn't going to risk stuffing up exposure.

Thanks man. Thats great of you to say! I have always fully admitted that composition I am pretty good with. It's just smackin the exposure thats gettin' me AND mostly getting consistantly sharp focus. I don't want to be an f/8 wedding shooter. I love that narrow DOF so much that I tendency to push it TOO narrow. I think I am a bit shakey and miss a lot of shots. Might be the 2 or so pots of coffee I drink a day!

I hear ya Mr Wallace

I am going to do a short course next month, hopefully I will learn more about exposure as one thing I really want to understand is how I get the camera to catch what I see and not let the camera "18%ise" it

I usually try to find something of known reflectance to me and measure that. I know what white and black are in EC-wise, so I try to find it and spot meter it. If I can't, I find something I think I can guesstimate close enough. I still don't always get it spot on.

If it's basketball or something, I just bust out the handheld meter and use that and dial in my settings once then forget about it.

Yeh I have been trying the first method lately, also trying to shoot full manual

:( :( :( :( I know...I am L-less. I almost went for the 24-70, but couldn't bare to do with the 17 now that I got use to it.

Maybe one day it will go: 16-35 2.8L, 24-70 2.8L, 70-200 2.8L IS. If I had a second body, I may have gone that way. OH yah, and a shit load of money!

I agree...my exposures are much more consistant in M than they ever were in Av. BUT, sometimes those two little buggers of mine are too fast to get it set manually. Now a rock...I can shoot that on manual all day long.

Same here, been shooting manual a lot lately....but that's because I've been doing a lot of shots with flash and have much more control with manual exposure.

I wish I could "gear up". I've been trying to decide if I should get a 17-55mm 2.8 or buy a 5D. The 17-55 would be cheeper but I need a second body some time and going FF would give me the right focal length with my 28-135mm plus all the benefits of the 5D over the XT.

Anyway looks like you've got some great glass coming your way!

congrats on the new stuff. i really been itching for some new stuff. right now i can't figure out if i wanna upgrade to a core2duo processor & 800mhz memory...or go wide with the 10-22...or get a 2nd body(xt)...or fix my bike up. decisions decisions.

I predict You'll be impressed by the 17-55 but the 85 1.8 you'll fall in love with. I don't know I'm a zoom guy I love knowing I have instant freedom of composition, but there is something magical about a great prime lens.

I'm L-less as well Jeff - no worries though. Surely there was a time before the L-lens when great photographers still managed to get the job done. ;)

Congrats on your newest additions - all great choices.

MAN, what a feeLing of heLpLessness, LoneLiness and Loss.:(

Being the middle guy sucks. Not only am I without my money, my L is gone and I don't have a replacement lens yet.:( :( :(

I think I may need to drink some beer tonight!

By the way, thanks Andy and do you wanna join me in a couple Liters of Lager Libations?
