I just bought a Canon A95 and I love everything about it except the LCD sreen at night. I can't see a thing on it, absolutely nothing, even when I am inside with some lights (let's say at a party). At the same time I can see quite a bit on the LCD of my old canon S30. Is my A95 defective? or are they all like that? Thanks,

I don't know if your LCD is a problem, but what I noticed just now is that the LCD is indeed darker if you point in dark areas, tho it is still visible... If you point where there is light, then u can see clearly.

it's quite common. in these cases, you will have to use the optical viewfinder. there is one major annoyance with the viewfinder (at least on this series of cameras) though, and it is the fact that it is not centered. I expect small viewfinders on cams like this to show only about 80% of the frame, but the fact that it is not centered means that you will have to guess where the real center actually is (the cross-hairs in the viewfinder are way off), and also guess what the actual shot will include. you'll just have to get used to this kind of guessing. aren't you glad now you have that viewfinder that seemed useless at first?
for future reference, lcd's that become brighter in dark conditions are said to "gain up," and Jeff will mention whether or not the LCD on a particular camera will do this or not in his reviews.
