LOL, I tossed around the 17-55IS and the 24-70L

The IS and price won me over considering I dont see FF or 1.3 in my future too soon

As for the 17-50, no word is good word, so its going to the house of ebay:cool:

As for timing, it should get here next week or maybe the following week so its gonna be close

Yeah, untill Nikon throws VR on their 17-55, it is soooooo not worth the $1200 price tag.

Is the Nikkor limited to crop sensors though? I know, kinda moot because they have no full frame, but even so if it's a FF lens, it's more akin to the $1300 16-35mm f/2.8L except with more range.

It's a cropper (DX) only.

LOL. I'm impatiently waiting too. I want the Discover bill to arrive, so it can be paid off, so I can order a Mark II N (assuming of course I can't get a deal on a Mark I tonight - or before the payment is made anyway).

cdifoto

you're gettin a mark II N? i hate you.

I will if I have to. I'd honestly rather get another Mark I for now and just save cash for a Mark III but the deals on the Mark I keep slipping through or sellers flaking on me, so if this one last attempt to grab a deal doesn't go, I'm gonna bite the bullet, put the II N on plastic, and eat the interest that accrues despite making as large lump sum payments as possible each month.

I had to be honest with myself and realize that a Mark II refurb, while kick ass, would still leave me wondering what a II N is like. I'm not an early adopter type personality so the Mark III is out for now...without any bad feelings about it. I also don't like the $4500 premium that B&H has listed.

I could get a new shutter for the 10D from KEH, but it's slower than dog shit compared to the 1D and not sealed, has a scratched sensor, etc. Not really worth it, IMHO, since I couldn't get much of anything if I wanted to sell it even fixed.

Yeah fortunately this 1D will be my only major debt other than the usual utility bills and such so I think I can swing it. I just don't have all that cash up front, and no backup body makes it more of a requirement than anything right now. I have to get my hands on something and it needs to have a 1 with a D after it. LOL.

Boating is WAY more expensive than photography. I own 3 raceboats and between storage, gas, insurance, and maintenance you could buy a 1Ds, MarkIII, and 5D each year. I'll be dumping them this season as I started sailing and only went power boating once all season.

Forno, you're making me so jealous. When I was choosing a dslr it was between nikon and canon, and I happened to go with nikon as the lenses and kit fit in with my budget. But I wish I had gone with canon....2 main reasons: a lot of canon lenses have the af motor in the lens rather than the body, and the high ISO performance of the canons. If it shot mostly still landscape photography then i wouldn't really care as any brand is pretty much noiseless at ISO 100, or 200. But lately I've been shooting a lot of things needing higher ISO and I haven't been happy with the results.

I'm a uni student, so what I've decided to do is put a bit of money into a bank account each month to save up for the canon kit i want. I hope i have enough by the time i finish my course in 4 years. Hope you enjoy the new lens, IS is so cool....i tried it on my cousin's 30D with the 28-135 IS.

Just a little nitpick.... all lenses for Canon EOS cameras have the AF motor inside the lens, the EOS system was the only AF system that was introduced without in-body motor.

Pentax and Nikon are now both going that way too, slowly.

I guess you meant the USMs.

Yep you're correct coldrain, sorry i just forgot that all of them had it because i was thinking back to using my cousin's 50mm f/1.8 and since it's not USM it is quite noisy....just seemed the same as the nikon version with all the noise and focus speed.

Forno - Congratulations, my man. That is a really nice lens. If Canon would have done as good a job with the 17-85 IS as they did with the 17-55 IS I would have jumped all over it. For now I'm sticking with the Sigma 17-70 as my walk around. I just can't give up the extra focal length. But do I ever love the IS on my 70-300 though. Now that's a lens!

Rich - Yup, boating is expensive for sure... especially when you drive em around in party mode without having renewed your insurance. Oops...

It is:) Actually it's my real estate taxes not my hobbies that are so damn expensive. If I could avoid them I could buy CW's entire kit including his two new IIIs with less than a year's savings... and have much more fun in the process. Can't wait to sell my house, pocket the savings from taxes/ maintenance, and live a simpler life with less responsibility.

It's a con job by the banks Forno. I paid my Home Building/Contents Insurance via BPay on 30th March. On 6th April I rang them to upgrade my insurance to cover my camera gear while away on holiday. You could imagine my dismay that I couldn't upgrade the insurance as they were yet to receive the standard premium payment...this is one week later

It finally cleared on the 8th April. In this day and age of computers and net transfers....it's a f@#$&*g joke

Anyway, the money has cleared, the lens has been payed for, so any luck I will have it for the weekend :p
