After much agonizing, reading, renting and mulling- I pulled the trigger and ordered my Canon Ef 100-400 L IS. Need to run out to FedEx and pick it up. They were here while I was gone this AM.
Really excited and hope it works as well as I expect it to.;)
I also have a Kenko Pro 300 dg 1.4 tc to use with it. It works well enough with the rest of my glass, so I hope it works with the 100-400 also. I know about the tape trick, but hope I don't have to use it.
Hummingbird season is almost upon us here- Central Illinois. And as you may know, this is where my wife and I were heading all along. So come on you little beauties, show up soon, but not before I learn the quircks to the lens.
We are also going to North Carolina ( Ocrakoke Island and the mountains) this summer and may/should get some use out of it there, shore birds and such.
Ron

Welcome to the club. The 100-400 is a great lens- it just likes LOTS of light.

I don't see any reason why the 1.4x won't be a terrific match for your intended use although for the life of me I can't understand the fascination with taking pictures of birds!

Well done Ron.

For some reason the 100-400/4.5-5.6 IS has never grabbed my attention. I would love to be shown otherwise and would be very interested in your opinion once you've given it a good work-out.
