I downloaded 47 pictures from my Rebel Xt to my Windows PC. In the Zoombrowser window I tried to delete one image and the software deleted all 47. I tried to re-download but the software (or the camera) says there are no new pictures that haven't already been transferred. How can I reset this?

Try opening the EOS Utility manually and then select all the images and hot the download button

I try that but the EOS window has the two download buttons greyed out and they don't function. The camera blinks its communication light for a few seconds and then sits blinking "busy" on its screen for a long time without any activity. Is there a way to initiate download on the camera? The manual doesn't mention downloading at all.

From the EOS utility Try - Preferences tab in lower left..
Then, under the Download Tab - change from "Images not yet downloaded" to "All Images".
Also, did you look in your recycle bin?

Without even running the software, you should be able to "drag and drop" ANY of the JPEG images from the camera's memory to your hard drive location as a normal file relocation.
I say screw the software solution ... good old nuts & bolts gets it done without all the hoo-rah!

I fully agree with this. I abhor putting any software I don't need on my rig. The few times I've tried the Canon software I've found it clunky.

Thank you Don and cwat and Adam
The obvious - look in the recycle bin was good advice. I feel really dumb.
