I'm ordering a Nikon 8800 for Christmas. Camera the whole family can use as a point and shoot while I'll be able to control creativeness of my shots.
My question is this. Is there a certain size mm other than Nikon standard for filters for the lenses (and what's the correct size?) and has anyone had any experience with the Nikon TTL flashes other than the 600 and 800 Nikon recommends for the 8800?

As for filters... I don't know, as I filter in post processing (Photo Shop) rather than goofing around with a bunch of photon robbing glass filters. But for flashes... The SB600 and 800 are definately worth the price of admission. 3rd party flashes will not give you the terrific iTTL capabilities, or remote flash options down the road. I have used both on my D70 and the difference is literally night and day.

But what about other flashes? I don't feel I can justify paying $200.00 right now for a 600 flash. What about some of the other speedflashes on manual? They seem to be selling on eBay for about forty or fifty dollars. Just a flash to hold me over until next Christmas!

In that case, just about anything made for a Nikon shoe from Sunpack should work. Check to make sure it works with the 8800.
Budgets are important. :)
