Budget
* What budget have you allocated for buying this camera? Please be as specific as possible. Up to $500.
Size
* What size camera are you looking for? Or does size not matter at all to you?
Size doesn't matter.
Features
How many megapixels will suffice for you? 6 MP or greater.
* What optical zoom will you need? (None, Standard = 3x-4x, Ultrazoom = 10x-12x, Other - Specify) Ultrazoom 10x-12x.
* How important is “image quality” to you? (Rate using a scale of 1-10) Very important 10.
Do you care for manual controls? Would be nice as an option but will probably use auto and scene modes most often.
General Usage
* What will you generally use the camera for? Pets - Dogs, Horses, Cats (mostly taken outdoors), Landscapes, Wildlife, maybe some outdoor portraits.
* Will you be making big prints of your photos or not? Maybe a few 11X14's but mainly 4X6, 5X7 and 8X10's.
Will you be shooting a lot of indoor photos or low light photos? Not a lot of indoor photos but maybe some low light outdoor photos and night photos (moon, city lights, etc.)
Will you be shooting sports and/or action photos? Not many.
Miscellaneous
Are there particular brands you like or hate? My last two cameras (one film and the other a small point and shoot) have been Nikon's and I like them, however, I am not set on staying with a Nikon. I am open to any brand.
Are there particular models you already have in mind? Was thinking about a Sony CyberShot DSC-H5 or a Cannon PowerShot S3 IS, but am open to any camera that fits my situation.
(If applicable) Do you need any of the following special features? (Wide Angle, Image Stabilization, Weatherproof, Hotshoe, Rotating LCD) IS would be nice but not an absolute necessity. Also being able to add a lens to up the zoom would be nice but also not a necessity, the 10-12x should get most of what I would do.
Thank you for your advice!
