For wildlife photography, it's not so much the camera as it is the lens. You can get away fairly reasonably with the Canon Digital Rebel with the 18-55 kit lens for about $900-$1000, and the 75-300 IS USM zoom for about $450. The lens is Image Stabilized (IS) and from what I have heard is decent in good light, and a good "starter" wildlife lens.

On the DReb this lens would be 120mm-480mm due to the 1.6X crop factor. The 18-55 is virtually free with the rebates currently in effect.

The Nikon D70 would also be a great choice, but the VR (simialr to IS) lenses in the "long" catagory are very expensive pro glass with the 80-400 at about $1500 and the camera body at about $900 (after rebate).

Finally the Canon 20D is a (big) step up from the Digital Rebel, but still uses that reasonable Canon IS lens, for about $1600 (body only).

As a side note: You might want to look at the Panasonic FZ20 as a possibility for wildlife photography as well. For about $600 you get a 12X, (36-420) Image Stabilized, f2.8, lens on a 5 Megapixel camera. We have a few "birders" on this site that enthusiatically endorse this camera.

Very good photos. Whichever camera you decide on the switch to digital can only enhance the nice shots you are getting now.

Bon Foto.
