HI guys its me again! i just received my D70s today in the mail and i cant wait to use it to take some outdoor photos. I was looking through the manual that came with the book and now am more confused than ever;) I used to own a Canon S2 that was set on P mode and it was sufficient to take the type of pictures that i like to do. I would like to set my new camera in the P mode or any other mode without getting to technical. can anyone help me out without using a whole lot of French;) also can anyone tell me the do's and donts or any little tips to help me on the way? like maintenence, filters, cheap lenses, e.t.c. here are the 2 lenses that came with the kit, so if you can give me any tips using these types in relation to my setup i would greatly appreciate it. thanks
1. Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens
2. Nikon 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens
congrats on your cam.
if you look thru the pic of the day thread there are alot of photos and most of them have exif data in there to let you know shooting info. thats the best way to learn, next to just experimenting.
generally speaking, i think most people here use aperture priority mode when they shoot anything bar sports or faster moving objects where they shoot in shutter speed priority.
in Ap you are generally setting the ap based on the DOF you are after taking into account where the sharpest points are with your lens. some lens are sharper stopped down at a certain ap. eg: sharpest at f8.

fd, I think you will also benefit a lot by purchasing this eBook. (http://www.bythom.com/d70guide.htm) I have it, and it is very useful. Others will readily agree with this as an almost essential purchase. There are other great photography books as well.
The great thing about that book, is that it will explain the metering modes, as well as good auto-focus information that applies to your specific model camera. While these subjects are covered in detail, they are only a couple of the great explanations that you will find very ueseful.
I agree with what Rooz says, but I don't shoot in Ap mode. I almost always end up shooting Manual. Guess I am a control freak! hehehe
