Just entering the digital camera handling I was wondering what piece of software you are using to generate thumbnails into a html file. I've experimented a little with the automate command from photoshop, very nice to start with, but
I'm looking for something more sophisticated, and I don't like to be forced in using java, which is used by some other applications around on the net. Any suggestions or recommendations out there?

Well, you say you don't want to use Java; this particular app I believe uses it to construct an HTML page, I'm not sure if it's actually employed during...

J-album (http://www.jalbum.net) and here is what a gallery looks like:Gallery Sample (http://www.jalbum.net/samples/XP/) It can generate HTML files on the computer, for CD, and for web, etc. The rest are web albums;

If you don't like that, there's another software galled ' Gallery ' which is very widespread, although a bit hard to setup for some.

Gallery (http://gallery.menalto.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=index)

Also, here is another one, very easy to set up, and very simple to use. Really barebones album program; picKLE (http://picklegallery.sourceforge.net/) and it is PHP based.

Hope this helps.

I have used Thumber (http://www.tawbaware.com/thumber.htm#current) from Tawbaware for a few years and it does a decent and quick job.

Thanks for your suggestions Nick and kgosden : I've downloaded Thumber which looked to me as being capable of doing that what I want. I 've played a few hours with it and I have to admit "that's it " what I was looking for.
So I'm going to work with it some more and I'm planning to register it.

Again, thanks both for your recommendations.

iView Media is a good choice. It was originally Mac-based, but there's now a Window's version:

You can try this one: http://photoshaman.com . It has nice picture frame and mask styles for thumbnail generation - your thumbnails start looking unique.

I like to use a program called Easy Thumbnails (http://www.fookes.com/ezthumbs/) which is available for free.

Yes, but it does not produce nice and good-looking thumbs, only square ones.

I've used Macromedia Fireworks with very good results. I bit too expensive if all you use it for is to batch generate thumbnails, but an excellent tool for general image manipulation and conversion to web formats.

I would also second the earlier recomendation of J-Album. Its available for a wide range of OS's, it has great support from a community of add-in developers, and can be customized if you are willing to deal with editing HTML templates, CSS style sheets, and some Java. Without any "programing", its still a very good program and creates whole "gallery" sub-sites, HTML and JPG thumbnails, quite will. Although its UI implies that thumbs are square, they actually are the same aspect ratio as the original sized so that the longest dimension fits the selected square size. The price is right on this puppy so there is little reason not to give it a try. I'm currently using it for a portion of my company's sit. Check out the "the jewelry" section and view "all styles". J-Album was set to link to the originals (240x180, generated in Photoshop) and created its own thumbnails (90x90 selection which yielded 90x73).

I'm still in the middle of a redesign, so please pardon the fact that many of the pictures have not been reshot and are still the old scans from a printed catalog.

if you use a picture gallery php script, it will do it automatically, and leave u with a nice gallery.
