Had this idea while posting on the S3 pics thread, many of us there are making the leap to dslr's and would love to have a central thread where we can stay in touch & post our pics on our new toys
As this is not restricted to manufacturer specific, I thought this is where this should go
So lets hear what you started with what you are using now & pics, lots of'em :)

I have joined the DSLR club but not the dark side
I was given an offer for a 350D, I could not refuse, so I continue as a canonite
The speed of the thing just blows me away :)
Using iso 800 indoors is great fun too :)

I think that what the photographer should have said was that you could see 5 states from the summit. One of them, however, is behind the photographer in your photo(Massachusetts).
I might be wrong and you may be able to see New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine in your photo. That would mean the distance from the left of the photo to the right is at least 150 miles.
Regardless, if I go, it should be nice spring skiing this weekend with a high of about 45F. I may, however, be volunteering on an episode of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" here in upstate NY this weekend. The demolition starts either today or tomorrow.
Ray.

The 50mm 1.8 is one of the sharpest lens that is ridiculously affordable. I had one before and will be getting one in the future once more. I've heard great things about the Sigma 70-300, but pretty much decided that if i were to spend on lenses, I'll save up for an L lens :)

Frustation , depression, anxiety? That is how I feel as I shot this water drop. My 30D is temporarily back with me as I await Canon Philippines to ship a new sensor assembly to replace the sensor of my 30D. My 30D's low pass filter has dust underneath it and Canon Philippine's attempt to clean it made it worse. It is ok as long as i shoot with a bigger aperture but once I hit f/11 and above my sensor looks like it has been dipped in sand. Oh well, as long as Canon will replace my sensor for free I will patiently wait for it. 2- 3 weeks before the parts arrive. :(

Daniel,
Man sorry to hear about the 30D. It's always a bad feeling when a new expensive piece of equipment breaks. I hope that all works out.
Drama, where in the world are you?
Where I come from from what you call Custard Apples we call Sugar Apples and I know Daniel has another name for them. I had a tree in my back yard as a Kid. Love those things.

ChrisL, I feel bad because when I brought it in it wasn;t really bad, in fact, I could live wiht the few specks that they can't clean off, They said it was found underneath the lowpass filter and it somehow got in there during the mfg. process. They tried to clean it by removing the lowpass filter and introduced eve more dust that was just big nasty blobs around 15 of them :( So they said they will just replace the whole cmos sensor assembly for free. The down side is I have to wait 2-3 weeks of the part to arrive and then another 3-4 days for them to install it. :(
I think Drama is in India.

Good luck on getting your 30D fixed, man it sucks when expensive pieces of equipment breakdown
This is why I insisted on a warrantied product & gave up on the D80
Tough choice but wiser in the long run

This is my favorite guitar. I consider it an old dear friend that has been with me through thick and thin. I decided to shoot it and make a pseudo (fake) product ad for it just for fun. Wish I can play well enough to this guitar justice though.

I've had the XTi for a week now, and I've not really had the chance to do much with it. I'm still trying to figure out which settings work best, when I can use higher ISO etc.... I got 17-70 Sigma and want to know your opinion about this lens. issue is i like the lens esp good for low light but on sunny day photos dark or overexposed, also focus misses often, i swapped one 17-70 for another 17-70 but things did not improve. is there a catch i must know and how to work with this lens. i like it for low light (though focus might be an issue sometimes) but i have trouble to use it for general daylight photo city and landscape.:rolleyes:

Lets see some shots soon :)
Gintaras
I have been pretty lucky with the 17 70, auto focus is fast & accurate, its the only one of my lenses that I use AF on, infact
Havent come across the issue you have been experiencing, I generally dont depend on the meter for metering :D
I take one test shot based on the meter & see how it looks & then adjust the aperture / shutter speed accordingly, works OK for me
Give it a shot
I use the partial metering mode usually

 Nice shot of that eagle (?) Drama. But did you run it through a noise reduction software? I can't really see the details in the feathers

Drama--I rally like the bokeh on that shot. The flower and dragonfly are cool too, but are they a bit over-sharpened?

@drama: very nice detail in this one. Look at the eyes!
P.S. by the way, what size monitor do you use? I run a 15" TFT @ 1024x768, and quite a few of your posted images don't fit in my monitor:( and its really difficult to appreciate the beauty of a nice picture if you can't see the whole of it:rolleyes:

I am using a 19" LCD, I highly reccomend you switch to one too
Much better for the eyes
I have started posting pictures at 800 600 or lesser now, only when I want to show something specific, do I post it large :)

You're a lucky guy! Unfortunately, I can't change my monitor, as its fixed to my PC:p
And I can't seem to find a similar one with a 19" monitor:D

Canon Digital Rebel XTi, EF 85mm f/1.8 USM. 1/30, f/1.8, ISO 400. No flash, calibrated white balance from a gray card.
The top left is overexposed but I think the rest of the shot makes up for it.

I find it very hard choosing a dSLR. My Fuji S6000fd seems near perfect except for noise and MP (the usual thing you want an SLR for). Every dSLR I look at is a compromise of dynamic range. Coming from a Fuji the tones, colours, dynamic range, detail and sharpness are unreal. The only comparable camera would be the S5 Pro (oh baby) at $1,700 cdn.
