Could anyone please give me some advice on a great camera for portraits?
I can spend up to 500-600 dollars so i guess a dSLR is out of the question...

I don't know that one camera in particular would be more suitable for portraits over another. Ideally, you would have a mid-tele focal length and the ability to use a larger aperature. However, I have seen beautiful portraits taken with relatively inexpensive cameras such as the Nikon 5200. I think the quality of good portrait pictures are more a function of proper use of lighting and the ability of the photographer to make his subject feel comfortable than the camera he is using.
