Buying a digital camera is proving to be a bit more difficult than I thought. I'd like to get a good camera since I won't probably be buying another one for a long time. Image quality is of the outmost importance as I don't want to be stuck with a rubbish camera and bad quality pictures to remember all those "precious family moments" by....

Canon is good. You could probably add the A series to to your list of possiblities. I don't think you could get a wide angle for the SD700/800... You should be able to for the others.

I recently bought the Canon SD800 IS and love it. If you are going to be taking a lot of low light pictures you may also want to look at the Fuji F30. The Canon SD800 does well in low light to me though and still gives you IS. Fuji F30 does not have IS.

The SD800 does have wide angle capability. You can not attach a wide angle lens but there is wide angle capability built in to the existing lens.
