Problem with A95 and closed eyes

We just purchased an A95 after hearing how great of a camera it is. We love it but seem to have quite a few pictures to erase due to closed eyes. These are just inside shots with the flash. This is our first digital and didn't seem to have problems with the last camera we owned. I can't find any information on this problem anywhere so I am assuming it is operator error but I would like to be able to take photos and not drive my kids crazy with 20-picture photo sessions to get everyone's eyes open. Any ideas would be helpful.

I'm pretty sure this most likely is not a function of the camera but overly anxious blinkers in the family :)

What it might be though is the red eye reduction and/or AF illuminator that is causing people to blink, although neither should be bright enough to do so. Try experimenting with turning either or both off.
