* What budget have you allocated for buying this camera? Please be as specific as possible. 300 or hopefully less

Size

* What size camera are you looking for? Or does size not matter at all to you?
leaning toward larger than compact but not a big heavy camera
Features

How many megapixels will suffice for you? 6

* What optical zoom will you need? (None, Standard = 3x-4x, Ultrazoom = 10x-12x, Other - Specify) 6 or larger

* How important is “image quality” to you? (Rate using a scale of 1-10)

not necessary may be fun to learn

General Usage

* What will you generally use the camera for?
family and activities, outdoor wildlife, fish photos

* Will you be making big prints of your photos or not?
sometimes, probably not anything really large though

Will you be shooting a lot of indoor photos or low light photos?
yes

Will you be shooting sports and/or action photos?
yes

Miscellaneous
We already have three xd picture cards, not that this is a deal breaker. Unless convinced me otherways I probably want one that we can use regular batteries in.

Are there particular brands you like or hate? no

Are there particular models you already have in mind? olympus 510uz, canon 630, fujifilm (Cannot remember the model)

(If applicable) Do you need any of the following special features? (Wide Angle, Image Stabilization, Weatherproof, Hotshoe, Rotating LCD) would like image stabilization.

The Canon S3 is down to $309 on Amazon.com. It is an excellent camera. And I hope you've checked out this list: http://www.dcresource.com/buyersguide/ check out the prices yourself, though, because some have changed.

Go to the store and play with the cameras. See which one draws you. As long as it's on that list, it will treat you well.
