I have two basic questions about the S9100 and compact flash cards.
I have not been able to find what the maximum size CF card the S9100 will accept.
And does it make any difference how fast the CF card is for normal shooting? I assume the camera has some sort of buffer, so you don't have to wait two or three seconds to record a single 5 meg file with a slow CF card.
Another issue I have run into is the danger of putting older external flash units on digital cameras. It seems these new cameras can be sensitive to the high voltages sometimes found in the trigger mechanism of flash units designed for the old mechanical SLRs. (And of course you don't want to use a dedicated flash with a bunch of extra pins for the wrong camera, I assume.)
I sure would like to put a flash onto the S9100, but don't want to burn it out. What are others using?
BTW, I agonized for a while over choosing the S9100 vs the S6100fd, as I gather many have done. The S6100fd sure does produce some fine looking high ISO shots! And the face detection seems to be more than just a gimmick, if it works. I wonder if it will focus on pet faces, such as dogs and cats? They are the one's I can't get to pose. But in the end, I felt the higher resolution, more sophisticated features, and what appears to be better highlight and shadow detail won out for the 9100. But for a less experienced photographer, the S6100fd would be hard to beat! I think it would be fantastic for smaller newspapers that like to hand cameras to reporters. Would be good for low light, and get properly focused pictures of people more easily.

Sorry to disappoint you but the FD needs 2 eyes and a mouth to focus on and it only works on the human variety. It does that quite well mind you, I've even had the FD kick in on a human face displayed on tv or a picture.

My camera is a S9000, but I think it's safe to assume my experience would apply to the S9100.
I used a 8GB 133x CF card today. I didn't really get a chance to push the memory limits, but I did take nearly 450 pictures, at approximately 4.4MB each, for a total of 1.7GB....okay, I shot a short video, but it's only a few seconds long.
I didn't really notice a lag. As far as I could tell, any lag greater than 1 second were due to AF or flash recovery.
