Hi Pentax users. I've been having a peculiar problem with the Silky pix software. I can't get the Pentax photos to open in the photo browser. The help section doesn't list this. All other photos are opening. Can anyone help?

thanks and best regards

Go to the "View" menu, then "Filter", and see if the "Pentax images" is checked.

Hi Special K, thanks for responding.....it seems only the photos that have been renamed would show up.....not the ones by photo numbers from the camera......any idea what's up with this? Also, please tell me,can I get another software for pp.....which would you say be a good one?

thanks and best regards

What program did you use to rename the files?

Did you look at the View menu as I described above?

I use Pentax Photo Laboratory that comes with the camera (I think I'm the only one :) I do not do anything fancy to them.

Here's a thread about programs...

I used my phone cam prog to resize and hence renaming them. Is there any other software that I could get?.....though I don't much like the idea of retouching....but it would be good to have a photolab if only to see what I can do with my pictures.

yes I looked at the view menu as you said.....did not help.

Also,I want to watermark my images.....would you have any idea about that?
Are they of any good use or can be erased by someone?

thanks and best regards

Do tell me about the watermark if you have any idea though.

Thanks a million

A poster known as TNB watermarks all his pictures, as do a few other posters. I can not find the thread at the moment, but you can hunt around in the Nikon areas for him. Or, start a thread in the "tips and techniques" section.

I believe TNB had an automated script for Photoshop or other software.

However, if you only wanted to mark a few, and not hundreds at a time, you can simply place text onto your image using an image editor. I would make a copy of the picture though, first.

Depending on the image, it may or may not be difficult to remove a watermark.

Thanks. I got one of the posters who does that. I have a few questions if you care to answer.....

1. Is there any way to check if shake reduction is working ok?

2. The camera shake is only reduced not eliminated?

3. The image will always be blurry, regardless of SR on or off, if :-

a. light is less ?
b. shutter speed is slow?

4. Is bokeh possible with the kit lense?

5. Can JPEG images be retouched/edited?

thanks and best regards

The indicator in the viewfinder should come on. You might hear it, too.

2. The camera shake is only reduced not eliminated?

I don't know if it gets totally eliminated.

Less light - not necessarily, unless you have a long shutter speed instead of really big aperture.

Slow shutter - yes, that is what cause shake. How "slow is slow" depends on the photographer, and lens.

4. Is bokeh possible with the kit lense?

All lenses have bokeh - which is the out of focus blurring. Some are better than others.

5. Can JPEG images be retouched/edited?

Yes, but normally it is not recommend to repeatly edit and save them as quality supposedly goes down.

I know the indicator comes on, I was asking if there was a way to check if it's really working or not,a test or something.

I can't seem to get the bokeh effect with the kit lense....but then again it could be me.

Regarding the Silkypix problem, how do you get the photos to open in the photo lab? Now the pics are loading in the browser but are not opening in the lab. When I click on 'file open' icon it is gray and inactive and cannot be used.

Any help is much appreciated.
thanks a ton.
best regards

No built in test that I know of, but you can take a couple shots around 1/15 sec or so with SR on and SR off and check the difference.

Can't help there.

In Browser, click on an image to select it. Then, go to the toolbar and click on the Photo Laboratory icon. Photo Lab should open. Go to the "View" menu and click "Preview" if not already clicked. Click the other windows you want to use.

Note, if you select more than one image in Browser, then click on Photo Laboratory, you can process all the selected files (with the same settings) at the same time in a batch. Takes about 10 seconds each image on my machine.

I guess I'm just not good at computers. The link you posted is great....maybe if I had known such a forum exists I wouldn't have bothered you so much.

thanks a lot

It's no bother. The "other forum" seems to be very helpful, and because there is essentially no brand warfare, the debates usually are more meaningful.
