Hello everyone:
Thanks to all the contributors of this forum. After a long ordeal of buying cameras (and returning them) based on internet product reviews, I found this forum. I bought the camera that was suggested by here and am totally satisfied!!! I do have another question:
I want to buy a UV filter to protect my lense. Will it fit directly onto my camera without any type of adapter? What should I look for in a UV filter? Is 58mm what I need?
Any additional tips would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi,
I have 58mm Hoya UV filter on mine ... but I found with the filter in place the lens cap wouldn't click in place.

I have the 58mm hoya and the lens cap works with both the UV and the Cir polarizer. I never take the UV off.

Thanks.
Does theUV filter fit on the camera without any type of additional hardware such as an adapter, etc?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, I am still learning.

Yeah it just screws on the front no problem but I wonder why my lens cap doesn't fit?

Don't know, maybe because you have the s6500? Different cap? Here is what mine looks like.

Strange… it’s as if the glass of my filter is very close to the edge of thread and wouldn't allow the clips of the cap to latch on.
core!

Really strange and this should not happen.Anyway I am getting my both filters in next 3-4 days so will post a feedback on this issue.

I don't know if it makes a difference but there is a ring that sets in a groove that holds the glass in. On one of my filters I had to pop this back into the groove, one end was out.

Thanks for that Paul, I had a closer look and the glass isn't quite straight. I'll take it back to the shop tomorrow and get them to replace it. I thought paying for a good brand was worth it but I guess even they can't check every single one.

UV filters are intended to screen out UV haze in landscape shots. (our eyes see it as haze anyway) I leave mine on all the time because it's much cheaper to replace a $15 filter than to replace my camera if the lens got scratched. There is some debate on the wisdom of this since it is just a $15 piece of glass but since I can't replace the lens I leave it on.

Wise words. I share the same rationale.
