WOW! I finally finished all 712 pages of his D80 eBook and I think I know more about this camera than Nikon does! LOL His book was so incredibly informative and helpful. I HIGHLY recommend his books to anyone who wants to get to know their camera inside and out. I'm going to take the CD to Kinkos to have the really important sections printed. Some of it is pretty basic, but it helps you learn why the camera functions the way it does, not just how to use it.
Anyway, just wanted to give a little plug. I think everyone needs one of his eBooks. ;)
Yeah this has been said before & it's worth saying again, they are a great resource to learn of your camera & well worth double the coin. I second the motion.

Kellie, thanks for sharing...
I just got a D80, and is considering a good book or two to read to get into the camera. I just wanted to get a feel about what the book emphasizes.. From the impression I get from this forum and from his website, I get a feeling that its pretty much technical stuff, on how to exploit the full functions of the camera. This is all good...
But how much of it is teaching you how to understand the picture you want to take and then use the camera to capture it?? Not sure if I'm being clear.. put it in another word, what is the focus of the ebook??? On the camera, and its functions? Or on photography and how to utilize the camera to achieve what you want?
Am I being clear?
Also, I heard a lot of good things about Bryan Peterson's Understanding Exposure. Would it complement the ebook? or they overlap a lot?
Thanks in advance!

Thom Hogan's book covers the technical aspects of the camera, but doesn't really get into general photography.
Bryan Peterson's books are in a different world than the eBook, so I wouldn't say they overlap at all.
But how much of it is teaching you how to understand the picture you want to take and then use the camera to capture it??
For that, I highly recommend Understanding Exposure. It It is a must read for ever photographer, IMO. I also thoroughly enjoyed Learning to See Creatively and Beyond Portraiture. I found them all very inspiring. :)

Kellie - Great advice!
I have the D70s eBook, and haven't had the time to read it cover-to-cover yet! Hopefully will have a D200 before I get that much time!
As already stated, this definitely is NOT a book on photography. But there are still things in it that will help you get MORE good shots. The good in-depth explanations of situations to avoid, as well as how the AF system, metering, etc will work, as well as what the technical challenges are for digital cameras, and how the particular model tries to manage those - as well as how that will affect your results, all make it worth the few bucks it costs.

Great, thanks for the clarification and advice..
Think I'm gonna get the ebook and Understanding Exposure first... seems like these two are on the top of most people's list...
Wish I could find more time to go through these.. Haven't even had time to go through the whole D80 manual!!:D :D
