I've been working with a Canon a80 for a while and I want to upgrade to a prosume.r I'm looking for a versatile dSLR in the $1000-$1800 range. I've looked at the D20 and I have been impressed, but have heard of a few problems, especially Chromatic Abberations. I like that it's 8 mp plus has low noise on high ISO's (I've had considerable annoyances shooting night shots with my current). Some reviews have been steering me towards the D70, but I don't want make such a huge financial commitment to a camera without some feedback from folks who have tried these cameras. Any other comparable camera suggestions would be great (I'm interested in hearing about Sigmas). Pretty much I want good lens versatility (switching lenses), great color and picture quality, high ISO's with low noise, good range of f stops, and if possible a viewfinder with 100% view. Give me whatever advice for a mid-level amatuer looking for a step up. Thanks

I have a D70 and can't think of a single reason to change. It's a dSLR and All dSLR's will do what you require, except give you 100% field of view through the viewfinder. There are only a handful of cameras, in general, that give you that option, and to be frank it's a frivolous requirement.

While the DReb is the low cost leader, the capabilities are exceptional. The D70 is faster, with better ergonomics, and will give you many more shooting options, and the 20D takes that one step further (for $500 more). The difference between 6.1 MegaPixels and 8 Megapixels is fairly negligable, and a decision that you will have to make. I've printed both on a 2000P at 13 x 19 and can see no difference.

I can't comment on the rest (Sigma, Minolta, and Olympus) because I have not used them. Suffice is to say that IMHO the worst dSLR is better than the best all-in-one, and in the end you should buy what rings your bell. So again from a picture quality, color, and etc. point of view it doesn't really matter.

As a final note CA is more a function of the lens than the camera.

Bon Foto.
