Best Way To Recharge Your Battery?

I have a Nikon D50 and I"m going on a trip tomorrow morning. Should I stay up late and drain my battery all the way down before recharging it or just charge it right now?

The D50 uses a Lithium-Ion battery pack, therefore it is not necessary to drain the battery before charging. Lithium batteries do not have a memory like NiCad batteries do.

I recharge the battery in my D50 at night after each session. I might only shoot 50-100 pictures but I still recharge it.

Do NOT drain your lithium batteries all the way. They will be damaged severely and you will not be able to use them.


Rule of thumb with lithiums; the more they stay fully charged, the longer their overall life will be. (so charge them after every use if you can) Unless you are storing them for months at a time and in that case you want to store them at about 40%.
