Budget

* What budget have you allocated for buying this camera?

A max of $400 AUD (~$310 USD) just for the camera, since I need to buy memory and batteries as well

Size

* What size camera are you looking for? Or does size not matter at all to you?

Compact to Ultra-Compact

Features

How many megapixels will suffice for you?

+6

* What optical zoom will you need? (None, Standard = 3x-4x, Ultrazoom = 10x-12x, Other - Specify)

Standard is acceptable, but up to 6x or 8x would be nice

* How important is “image quality” to you? (Rate using a scale of 1-10)

8

Do you care for manual controls?

yes

General Usage

* What will you generally use the camera for?

General holiday/beach/happy snaps, photos of touring car racing, indoors and outdoors, here and there. Average sort of use really.

* Will you be making big prints of your photos or not?

Highly unlikely

Will you be shooting a lot of indoor photos or low light photos?

Most likely

Will you be shooting sports and/or action photos?

Quite probably

Miscellaneous

Are there particular brands you like or hate?

I'm leaning against Sony due to the extortionist prices on their duo memory sticks, and Fuji/Olympus would need to make a really awesome camera to cover for xD media costing double SD media.

Are there particular models you already have in mind?

Canon A710IS is top of the list right now, possibly the Fuji F31f and the Panasonic TZ3 which is sadly a long way past my price range

(If applicable) Do you need any of the following special features? (Wide Angle, Image Stabilization, Weatherproof, Hotshoe, Rotating LCD)

Image Stabilisation is almost a necessity, as my hands are quite shaky. The ability to use adaptor lenses would be a nice bonus as well, and AA batteries are preferred to Li Ion.

Canon A710IS or Fuji F31fd sound good. A630 may be better.
