It's nice to see Olympus working hard to keep in this market. dSLR's keep getting smaller and smaller!! :) But, I wonder how well these will perform...I have nothing against Olympus, but I haven't been too impressed with most of their offerings.

The IS is making this a very interesting camera. I am thinking of recommending the E-410 to my sister, if she finds the 400D too heavy (artritis in hands).

With a few high quality lenses (even these kit lenses are much better than the 18-55/18-70-55-200 kit offerings from Nikon and Canon) this may prove to be a nice camera for her. And live preview too.. nice.

That's correct. The 410 also advertises a kind of IS, but it's a marketing ploy; it's just an automatic setting that changes ISO to allow faster shutter speeds for moving subjects. Olympus isn't alone in using that claim, but I wish they'd stop.
IS and the sizes are the main discriminators between the two models. Price difference is supposed to be about $100 as well. Both have improved viewfinders (use of new material glass and coatings produce brighter view, according to news release).

i guess im not alone in thinking noise performance might be interesting
if they are like L1, and i assume they are, they arnt too bad at 1600
certainly Oly's penchant to innovate makes interesting cameras
i really wonder what the long awaited pro body has to offer
