I usually don't do lens testing but here are a couple of tests I performed today with interesting results, I think.....

All 100% center crops, tripod, remote release:

1. 10-22@ 18mm wide open 2. 17-70@ 18mm wide open
3. 18-55@ 18mm wide open

Here's some at 28mm, again all wide open:

1. 17-70 2. 18-55 3. 28-105

Here is 50mm:

1. 17-70 2. 18-55
3. 28-105 3. 50mm 1.8@ f/2.0
4. Sigma 50mm macro@ f/2.8

What did I learn from this testing?

1. All of my lenses seem decent enough, except for my 28-105; this lens's performance really suprised me - It has a reputation as a very good consumer lens, but it looks like my worst, at least in terms of resolution.

2. I always thought the kit lens was a decent lens. I realize that these are center and not edge crops, but my kit lens wide open looks as good to me as my 10-22, again resolution only, but it surprised me for sure.
(My kit lens wide open is better than my 50mm 1.8 @ f/2.0 - that was a shocker!!!)

I hope all of you find this interesting.....I did for sure.

I've got the 28-105 that I've had before I went digital and your results surprise me. I've always regarded that as one of my better lenses. I haven't really put it to the test against my current lenses, but maybe I will now out of curiosity.

Agreed....I purchased this lens because it was so highly regarded and seemed to get great reviews across the board. It has a great feel, lightning fast USM, non-rotating front element, but it unfortunately disappoints where it counts!
I had been thinking of letting it go since the arrival of my 17-70 and now I think I will.
