Hi 1stopdifference. I've seen much conversation about Epson printers, 3800 in particular,at Luminous Landscape in the Printers section. Hope that it helps.
Best Regards
Member Don Schap just bought one. He had some initial comments here:

I am a grandfather family photographer - a low volume user. I wanted this printer and had many concerns and fears considering my very low use. After a year I have changed 3 cartridges. I printed many 17X22 and other sizes. The quality is just stunning. There are times when the printer sits for 2 months with no use. I have had a few clogged heads and cleaned easily. Every 3 momths I take each cart. out and shake it due to my low usage. I have had no problems at all. This printer is extremely economical and downright cheap to use in the long run! I bought it for the large prints and the stability of the final print - I also love the wide choice of media. I use it as a net worked printer on Vista UL 32. The latest drivers fixed all problems. The previous problems were minor - showing ink levels on the network and maintenance commands - none were print quality related. This printer has a relatively big physical footprint.

I have an entire table dedicated to this bad boy. It does want its share of space, that's for certain. Heck, the box alone is a major storage issue. It's full of non-collapsable packing material.
I keep my LCD TV on it, when I have it quiet. (Hey, did you note that Chicago/Green Bay score? Eerily reminiscent of the GB/NY game, huh?)

I really do need to reorganize my work room, that's for sure. Between the flat scanner and that printer ... about eight feet of wall is taken up. Devices like these require considerable workspace clearance too, so corner use is rather prohibitive.
In my review, I found that I have to generate at least one image a week to keep it running right ... otherwise, I risk clogging and wasting ink & paper. It's designed for real use ... and low usage makes for ... waste issues. Sure, its true gift is its full 14 x 22 size capability ... but just smacking out an occasional 4x6 will keep it right as rain. ;)
