Have a question about program mode on the S3IS. Is it fair to say that it is the same as auto mode if you don't change the things you can change? Have to say the owners guide doesn't make things like that clear to novices like myself..

yea i think P mode is like Auto but u can adjust the little things here and there.. ie white balance.
you can also set ISO and white balance in P mode.

P Mode is great for taking group/event pix. No need to press anything before shooting. Just click away.

IMO P mode is kinda like auto but there are settings that can be changed to ruin the picture. Like ISO if its set to high on accedent it can be changed. The flash can be turned off, macro and like truflip white balance can be changed wich can screw up the color. You still need to kinda check the settings and review the shot.
Right out of the box it SHOULD be set correctly but you never know. The EV can be altered in P mode i think wich can over or under exspose the shot. I would try auto first then see what it says its going to use for settings then check P mode see if its similar or close to auto. You will then know if its set for a balanced shot. The flash intensity can be changed to wich can give over or under exsposed shots is well.
