My own nothing special pics.. Ice skating Saturday night at an outdoor rink in D.C. Snow the next day. If you see anything that could help the pictures, let me know. I plan on going back to the ice skating rink to experiment some more.

Ghosts on the ice:

17-55 @ 17mm, f/2.8, 1/6, ISO 400

I aborted my trip into D.C. to take photos, so I was stuck with taking a couple of shots near my apartment, which didn't allow for too many opportunities. There is still snow on the ground today but none on the trees any longer. Maybe a bit underexposed?:

17-55 @ 23mm, f/5.6, 1/50, ISO 100

Overexposed to give it a sort of flattened, holiday card type look:

17-55 @ 28mm, f/2.8, 1/60, ISO 100

Nothing special pics rock! lol. I don't have suggestions for these really. Your "overexposed" actually looks pretty much correct, and the other looks a tad under.

Other than that I like 'em. :)

Oh, I wanted to ask about FEC. I set it to -1 initially but then reset it to 0, not realizing how powerful even the 430EX is. I think dialing it back down would've helped here, no? Also, it's at ISO 1600, which probably makes matters worse. Please correct me if I'm wrong. And yes, her feet got cropped.

I have no experience with snow pics so I wont comment!

With the ice skating one it looks like you used the flash??

If so I would do it without next time, it will make the ghost smoother without the part where you can see the figure clearly you will need a tripod though

Yeah, I used flash. I was going for something like how it turned out. I think without flash, they would've looked more like blurs and not ghosts, like the figure in the middle. Or am I wrong? Like I said, I plan on going down again while the rink is still open.

The skating shots are cool. Try using "second curtain sync" on your flash (check the menu on your camera) so that the trail will be behind your subject instead of in front. And use a tripod and lower ISO for more creamy images... ;)

For some reason I thought second curtain sync was the default option. And then the battery died literally right after I took that last shot, and I couldn't review to see what I'd done and reshoot. Hopefully I'll have my tripod in by the time I go again.

nice shots. i have yet to play around with the flash and slow shutter speeds. that second curtain sync is something i've been wanting to use, but never really had anything worth trying it out on.

I like #1 the best. Nice sense of action. :)
