7 extra blades on the diaphram:D

Nice bokeh on the second one, whats with the edges of the 3rd trunk from the right? fringing or just shadow??

That's shadow. Or just darker bark. Or something. LOL.

There's some green "fringe" going on on the top branches in the sky but I also boosted the saturation and vibrance and whatnot so I kinda amplified it. It's probably actually the bark itself though being green.

Yup. Except one thing. Since it's a screwmount, I use an adapter. Well. It doesn't screw in right. Damn thing leaves the aperture markings on the side/bottom instead of the top. Mounts to my Spotmatic just fine and dandy though. I ordered some new adapters so I can put one on each lens so I'll see if it's this particular adapter that's wonky or what. Other lenses mount up just fine though.

Not a big deal since I usually pick an aperture and stay with it but it's weird nonetheless.

Me too. In moderation though. But when the toy..err tool..is new, moderation doesn't apply. :D

Usually f/4 isn't much of a bokeh challenge. Stopping down further really starts to "chop things up."

Here's f/8:

How many aperture blades are in that SF?

Just tried all my M42's with my adapter and they all screwed to where they should. Only exception was an odd balled teleconverter that didn't even align right on a Pentax body. Any chance the thread is buggered up a tad and the Pentax has a bit more play to allow it to seat right?

Do you think these primes will keep you satisfied for a while and deter you from buying Canon prime glass? From the pics I think so :D

The aforementioned odd balled 2X teleconverter, I'm doing some cleaning out of excess stuff I've got and it's not worth the effort of ebay. If you want it PM me your address and I'll throw it in an envelope with some cheap postage and send it along.

Actually I found out what it is from a MF forum. The threads are a bit too long on this particular lens, and the adapter has a flange to keep stop-down pins pressed. That same flange prevents the lens from being screwed the whole way in due to that longer-than-normal mount. I ordered some flangeless adapters a couple days ago anyway, so it should be fine with those. There's no pin to worry about. As far as the mount and lens condition, it's practically mint. The screw-on hood has a dent and a scratch but the body, aperture, and glass is nearly perfect and even came in the original box.

And anytime I can use this lens I will. I primarily purchased it with portraits in mind. :)As for the 2x, sure I'll take it off your hands. :D Jamie gave me a 3x Soligor that I added to the EF 25mm tube, 50mm takumar, and 10D to shoot some macro. I'll throw that 2x on top of it yet and see if I can get anything through the pitch black VF. :D Let me know how much you want for shipping.

Thanks CW. It's fun. You can get nice results at low costs if AF speed isn't at a premium.

Speaking of obscure. I bid on what I thought would be a good wide angle and a tele I could flip over for a profit. Turns out they're for surveillance cameras.  :D Fortunately it was only a $16 lesson for both lenses combined. :o

CREAMY - though I'd love to pit my 135 f2L against it...I've not seen much better than the Bokeh from that lens...

That would be interesting. I might send it up your way to let you run a test. Or maybe you can send me your L... ;) :D

(Hey, I tried! :p)

I ran a half-assed unscientific test of my 70-200 vs the Meyer...for sharpness and bokeh. The L still wins on sharpness but that doesn't mean I didn't slightly misfocus the Meyer. I used AF on the L since that's what I do in the real world. I only ran f/2.8 and f/4 because I have no plans to use either past that if I can help it. That's just my style of shooting.

Once I get an AF-Confirm M42 adapter I'll run this test again out of curiosity...but don't hold your breath since I don't intend to spring for one anytime soon.

I used a Printscreen program to simply grab the Lightroom side-by-side screenshots. Anyway, here are the test samples, labelled accordingly.

Yeah. It's not known for sharpness. But even so with MF and a not so bright room I might have missed my focus. I was WAY off on the first attempt even though I thought it was good. This one was closer and my real world shots seem sharper.

*shrug* Who cares though. 83 bucks vs 1200.

Seriously. If I can/could get a reasonable price out of it I'll sell it. I want to move to the IS anyway. I was going to wait until I have the extra cash to put into the IS so I have very little "go without" time but I really don't need it right now. That comparison lineup and sharpness/bokeh test are the first it's been out of my bag since January 20th.

Donato - have you tried selling your stuff on Amazon.com? I've sold a bunch of stuff there lately (including my Canon 135 F2.8 SF) and gotten pretty good prices. The advantage is so many people go to their website for stuff. Their commission works out to about 8% I think and they give you a shipping credit as well. And of course they handle payment processing etc.

I could toss it up on my own site if I wanted to go that way. I have a semi-automated Froogle feed and list on Pricegrabber and all that other good stuff. I'm not rushing to sell it right now though but if someone casually comes along from the forums I'll let it go. When I'm 100% set up to pay the difference on an IS upgrade I'll really push the sale.

I dunno guys - I think I'd rather have the 70-200 F4 L IS than the 2.8. Looks like Canon's sharpest tele-zoom lens and it seems much more manageable esp. on a smaller body...
